SUP Blanks
« on: August 18, 2014, 04:20:57 PM »
I am a surfing SUPer and have built a couple of foam boards for myself and get about as much satisfaction building them as I do riding them. I am trying to get a 8 ft. SUP blank and am finding that it is difficult to come across anything shorter than 9'6 at most of the surf shops I have visited. I don't really want to get into hotwiring a block as I don't have any experience in this area so if anyone can point me in the right direction on a EPS or PU blank I would be much obliged

Get a hot wire set up and don't look back. The money you save (after you pay for the set up) will pay for an upgrade to S glass,a set of quad boxes, and a insert handle for each board you build. Especially for sub 8' board...every insulation and architectural foam supplier will have 8'lenghts. A 8" thick x 32" wide x 8' long block should only cost $50-$60'bucks at most. That's for one board...if your planning on making severa,l buying a bigger block will cut way down on the waste and drop the price even more...

Creating your own designs is 90%of the fun...Masonite templates are easy and cheap to make and pulling a hot wire across a couple templates is stupid simple if you have any talant for building anything at all. If you have built boards before you already know how to do the "hard part". $225.00 for a "blank" ...your giving away he easiest part of the whole build....

I did see the hotwire in action when I visited Holladay surf shop In Jax beach before John packed up the business and went to Hawaii. On that particular board I scanned a Coreban Pure , built a template for the blank and went from there. I suppose I should get after the hotwire setup as it will pay for its self soon enough.
Thanks for your input.
