Here in Portland, I see more women paddling than men.  On the local facebook SUP group page (mostly flatwater-related, but some surfing and downwinding) women seem to post way more than men.  Someone like gorgebob who rents boards could tell you more accurately, but there seems to be more women paddlers around 20-40 or so years old than any other gender or age group.  And it's not just because I don't charge them for taking the shortcut through my yard to the river.

Playing off another post is it geeky to ask if you are on stand up zone? I might just be the  king  kook of all  geeks  if that is true. !!!!
...

"zoners" need a password phrase. Asking "are you on stand up zone?" is very geeky.

For example, on TGR (ski forum) "got change for a nickle?" is the passphrase to sus out a fellow member. (from Taxi Driver:  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075314/quotes  )

May be a subject for a new thread. I let you start that one.
