sup fishing and seasickness?
« on: July 31, 2014, 07:50:08 PM »

This summer has been unusually flat in central California so I've been fishing in the kelp beds and catching rock fish.  I really enjoy this but I always finish feeling seasick.  I only fish for 1.5 hrs max or less.  I'm usually dizzy for a couple of days and just out of it. I've always been susceptible to motion sickness and taken a lot of different "Over the counter" seasickness medicines that usually don't work and really make me drowsy.  Funny thing is I can sup surf for hours and never feel bad.  I only pick the small swell, glassy days to fish.  I keep all the tied rigs in small baggies and I cut up small chunks of squid which I put into a small baggy.  I set all this up on land before I fish.  I use a hand line and don't really tie and knots while fishing as this adds to the seasickness.  I would love to go fishing soon but don't want to deal with the awful feeling of seasickness again.

Any remedies you would recommend?  I eat lots of soda crackers and Ginger ale but that does little help.  Maybe something new on the market.

Seems like you are already in a cool area.  But, you might try putting a cool wet/damp towel around your neck.
I don't don't know the science of why it might work.  But, when I raced ocean racing sailboats and everyone else was getting seasick, staying cool seemed to help.
