What's the name of the boat/landing that transported the 'yaks to the island?
My buddy lives near Ventura, so if it's a transport boat that's open to the public, I'd like to check it out someday.

I'm thinking about trying to organize an all SUP trip to the island for next summer.  So, if your buddy SUP's, he may be interested.  And yes, the boat company is called Island Packers as was said before.

Wow, thanks!  You are right about all the other details.  The transport boat we use will not carry SUP's, in fact, I don't think anyone will.  Since the Nalu is a kayak, made by a kayak company, they didn't say a word.  A Nalu, or similar, is what someone would have to use to SUP the island unless they had a private boat.

SUP discrimination???? why won't they carry something thats arguably easier to carry to to size/weight? is there some other reason?

because they can slam around the plastic kayaks and nothing happens.  They used to be willing to carry surfboards and now they wont do that either.  Probably somebody raised issues when they damaged their surfboard.  I don't know that, but its a good guess.

No, they don't take yaks to Backdoor Cave.  They don't take wilderbeasts either.  (now THAT was screwing with you :)..)

Seriously though, they take kayaks and campers to Scorpion Anchorage or Prisoners Harbor, both on Santa Cruz Island.  It's not a day trip at all.  We go there early on a Friday morning and get home Sunday evening.  Two days of camping in the campground.  From there, it's about a 5 mile paddle to get to Backdoor.  Neptune's Trident is only about a mile and some other great caves are only about 1/4 mile from the beach.  Backdoor is far, and not everyone knows how to find it.

Don't know about an inflatable.  They might take it.  You could call and ask.

We have a Fleet of the 12'5" Nalu's.
We could definitely put something together.

What you say Zoo?
We have them loaded up in the Step Van ready to transport..

Socal Zoners or Travelers anyone ?

It would be worth it if we could put together more than a handful..

I would be happy to lead a trip of SUPers; I know the caves and the whole gig pretty well.  We would need to go by mid September or we would have to wait until next summer.  I've been in October and it's nice, but there is too much NW swell activity from late September through late spring so 75% of the caves are inaccessible.  You don't want to go in there when there is a NW swell.

Wouldn't that make a cool vid?  A whole fleet of Sup-Position Nalu's storming the caves?  I would want to bring better lighting so we could get better shots in the caves.

We would have to make it clear that regular SUPs are not allowed on the Island Packers boats.  I don't know about inflatables, they are pretty picky about what they will carry.  Safer to use your Nalu's; they didn't even bat an eye on mine.

I know of two.  Yellow Banks that is supposedly a decent summer spot.  I have never been there but I know generally where it is.  Then there is Chinese Harbor which would be a good SUP surf spot, but it is a winter break.   Either one is about a 6 mile paddle from the campsite.  So, I don't know if they would be feasible or not.
