« on: July 28, 2014, 10:56:57 PM »
Anyone have any experience with SurfCore, all carbon paddles?  Opinions?

Super cheap Chinese pop outs. Sold in SoCal right off the container.

That was my first carbon paddle. It was fine but once I switched to a Better paddle I could tell the difference. The first year? I had no idea.

Thanks for that info.  I found them on eBay for $125 new, all carbon.  Thing is, they weigh 22oz which I think is almost as heavy as a straight fiberglass paddle, isn't it?  But for $125, it might be OK as a beater surf paddle, I suppose.

I think you're better off spending $200 on a good used paddle (kialoa, Werner, kenalu, etc). Watch Craigslist...

Yeah, not gonna pull the trigger on one of those.  I'm leaning toward a Kialoa Insanity.  Seems like the lightest really durable paddle around.

Yeah, used "good" paddle is way better. I used mine the other day to see what it was like and it was kinda shocking.

Zooport what size paddle are you after?  I may have a demo paddle that would be a good match for you, at a discount price...

The blade on my current paddle is roughly 8" by 15" and the shaft is 71.5" counting the handle.  What kind of paddle are we talking about, an Insanity?

No need to take chances buying a good used paddle for $200...when you can buy a great new paddle for $199...

http://blog.surfingsports.com/2013/09/new-sup-paddles-3.html

Over the last 10 years, we've used and sold paddles from most of the majors...and, then some...since 2005, when we brought in the first production Pohaku carbon paddles from Todd Bradley, founder of C-4, to helping put Sawyer and Werner on the SUP map...etc...we have continually done head to head tests with standup paddles...to date, we haven't seen better bang for the buck than these...you don't have to pay a super premium price to get quality, performance, & value...

Perfect flex…joint friendly...no flutter…perfect power transfer…non-slip snakeskin shaft...lightweight & strong…
Our high quality…high performance…factory direct value priced paddles are $100 under comparable quality…with our eye pleasing aesthetics…

QUALITY…VALUE…PERFORMANCE… $199 for carbon shaft SUP paddles with colored DURABLE fiberglass blades…90 sq. in. : compare at $289…
$269 for carbon shafts with carbon/bamboo blades…90 sq. in. & 100 sq. in. : compare at $395…
Adjustable option add $20…range : (66″ – 84″)

Vinyl edge guards included on fiberglass blades…we’ll also install them on the carbon/bamboo hybrid SUP paddles at no charge, if desired…
Prices include paddle shaft cut to proper size and handle installation…our FeatherLite carbon grips come with hot glue pre-applied…simply use a hairdryer to heat and remove for sizing this great SUP paddle down at a future date…

Demos available at our shop...proof is in the pudding...;-)

I meant paddle length, not size... sorry.  My demos are all cut & glued to a specific size.  Mostly Werner Carves, Nitros...
