Decent inflatable SUP under $1000?
« on: July 28, 2014, 01:58:52 PM »
I paddle a few different boards in Mexico, but left them all there while we spend several months in the US.   I'm thinking of picking up an inflatable to throw in the car.   This would be used primarily for all-around recreational river & lake paddling (probably 70% river, 30% lake). Maybe something around 10 x 33 with a bit of rocker.

I had an inflatable a couple years ago and quickly scrapped it (at 4" thickness and 10-12PSI, it was wayyy too wobbly).  I understand in the past year or so, there are a lot more options available, with performance more like a 'real' board (6" thickness, 15-18PSI, etc.).     I'd like to keep the budget well under $1000.      I'm a Starboard user and really like the looks of the Astro series, but if I'm going to drop $1500+ on a new board, I'd rather spend it on a new Wide Point :)

Any reasonable boards out there in the $500-$1000 range?   Unfortunately I'm pretty landlocked right now and don't have access to a lot of demos/rentals/etc. So something I could order online (with confidence) would be great.

Hi stinkydog,

Got a closeout deal on the 2013 Red Paddle 10' Surfer. 10' x 30". 4" thick but can be pumped to 25PSI, nice and rigid and has the RSS battens for extra stiffness. Just over 1k but ships with free 3 piece paddle and leash.

Have a look at the board tested at different pressures: http://greenwatersports.com/3126/the-definitive-inflatable-sup-stiffness-guide

Package is here: http://greenwatersports.com/shop/red-paddle-co-10-surfer-package
