I've been getting about five messages an hour saying that people I sent facebook messages to have signed. If quantity is important it might be worthwhile to revisit the link and connect to facebook. I picked people I thought would want to know about the petition until I got bored with doing it. If you write a message in the message box and then click on other names it copies the message automatically. the interface sucks, but it's workable.

Facebook newbie got the link on my timeline - finally won a battle with my infamous no no nokia tablet. Hope it helps - I think we need at least another 100 signatures. If all the zoners post it on their FB timelines it would do it - no doubt!

I've been reading the "reasons for signing" comments on the petition (although they won't scroll down for me right now).  There were a few obvious reasons that multiple people mentioned.  A couple less obvious ones stood out to me, because I hadn't thought of them myself, but they're important.

One was a guy who said he may rethink vacationing there if he's restricted from standup surfing--i.e. this will hurt tourism and thus incomes.  Another was from someone who does standup because shoulder injuries prevent him from prone surfing.

I'm sure both comments represent many other people--that is, rental places and others relying on standup economically will be hurt, and there are plenty of people who can do standup but can't do prone for health reasons.

This always happens when rules are made.  They have unintended consequences.  Good thing people are finding out ahead of time, and have a chance to let the rulemakers know their concerns.

Good luck at the hearing.

Came across this article on Surfline and I found the comments VERY interesting. Seems there are more then a few surfers out there that understand that banning certain types of watercraft can be a slippery slope and can come back to bite them in the ass.

In the case of this proposed ban (and this was mentioned by another zoner regarding that mess in SanO) people need to be careful what they wish for. Once you get bureaucrats involved things can go to shit in a hurry. It won't be long before the fishermen go in front of the DLNR asking that surfing be banned as it screws with their "rights" to feed their families.

Thanks for signing, the spelling error was fixed, here is the link again:

This is getting a lot of attention, I got a call today from Surfer Magazine asking for a quote.

The meeting is tomorrow, will be interesting, I'll report on the outcome.

McMasters withdrew his proposal before the meeting started but there was a lot of emotional and powerful testimony from some heavy hitters at the meeting anyway, almost all of it opposing government regulations in the lineup.  What everyone agreed on was that we all need to share, make friends, be respectful, and show some Aloha in the surf.

A quote that came up twice as good advice to give wave hogs: "Just because you can catch any wave does not mean you should".

This was a local news report on the meeting:

Sam is awesome. He gave the tow-in course. Those guys have been in some hairy situations on SUP.

Great news-score one for self regulation and common sense.
Be careful giving any quotes to Surfer Magazine-first class anti sup a holes at the top of that mag.
Oddly enough their parent company is the same as Sup The Mag.
