Again, an inexperienced surfer or an inconsiderate surfer will be that way no matter what vessel they are riding.

Such bs  it is just  a bunch of  crybaby short  boarders who probably don't get waves anyway. I think some big name  manufacturers and shapers should stand up for the sport.

Jeeze... that public hearing is going to be a horrorshow. Can you imagine... all the zealous anti-SUP crew given a microphone? Better get the "bleep" button ready... and the firehoses/// :o

DLNR~  Dept. of LAND and Natural Resources, like natural stuff we need for survival, drinking water, food, air, energy.
Where in hell does SUPing or even surfing fit into that?
Our government is already too damn big, back off.  >:(

It takes a quiver to do that.

Can't understand why the DLNR would be involved in this, I fought them when I built the new seawalls at Off The Wall in 83 and they're a total nightmare to deal with

^^^^^^
That, is obviously why the took the demand to them.... they knew it would gum up the works.

Counter sue.... pick a break, say.... Pipeline... and go in as a concerned parent of the young boogie borders at Eukai Beach Park.... demand that they shut down from backdoor to Rocky Rights to surfers. In the name of safety. List all the serious accidents, beatings by local surfers etc.

Yeah... we could involve a regulatory agency into our sport.... for public safety. Great idea..... dumbass jerks.

You think this won't be an eventual direction of the bureaucrats once this door is open?

The interviews in the "news" clip were very positive; public perception matters.  This is just a case of one attorney/surfer wanting to be heard by the DLNR.  The majority of surfers know that supporting any surfing restrictions is a slippery slope and I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts he gets very little support at the hearing.

I found it interesting that the reporter on this clip was astute enough to bring up the point that the dispute used to be between short boarders and long boarders.  The implied message, at least in my mind, is that surfers are always whining about something.  If the general population understands this, I think it weakens the proners case.

You do not want the government getting involved with policing the line up.  If they can get SUP banned, next will be surfboards.  Way more people are hurt every year by surfboards then SUPs.  I would guess probably 1000 to 1.

The irony is that stand up paddling is nothing new to the Hawaiian Islands, fishermen there have used big paddleboards for a long time (maybe centuries).  Heck, I remember an old timer or two who paddled Waikiki a long time ago, maybe the 70's.

Howzit Taut, Good to see you here.  Still kiting in Kailua / Mokes?  It's been a long time, I'm dying to get back home.

all of the news stations here in HI have recently been stretching desperately by instigating "news" like this, just to say "you heard it here first", look for a staged SUP accident next, film at 10pm, we live in sick times, sad but true, as for the DLNRs current regs at the beach park, i break them constantly and paddle inside their buoys and so do many others. so not to worry this is just for your attention, nothing to see here. Aloha.

Maybe Pops AhChoi and John Zapotocky.

I'd like to know who the attorney is that brought this up to the DLNR. That douche bag needs to be pulled aside and dealt with. People need to get over themselves!!!
