Oh, and when one of the monkeys says that maybe SUPs are okay in flat water or the open ocean that means that he's bought one and doesn't have the sack to tell his brother moneys yet.

'Blame Culture' springs to mind..

I've lost count of how many people have died so far this year do paddlesports in the UK..

The fact is - there are risks involved.

Yes - it's sad, but it will happen, to somebody at some point.

UKRiverSurfers, when you say you have lost count of people who have died because of paddle sports, you don't mean people who have died because someone fell off of a SUP and hit them, right?  You are speaking in general of the danger of watersports, I think.  Do you know of others who were killed by a SUP?

So far no SUP deaths have happened in the UK that I know of...

Yes - talking generally, but making a point about blame culture and liability.

A chap once told me how a goat boat surfed into his friend and broke his ribs.. It wasn't the boat that surfed into him , but the lack of control of the water user.

To be honest, I avoid busy areas like the plague. I will go to HUGE lengths to avoid the masses. If the prone surfers were truly dedicated they would move.

About 50 years ago a grade school classmate's brother drowned after being hit in the head by his board. There were very few surfers here then compared to now and I haven't heard of it again until this, although I'm sure it has happened. Lucky for all those winey crawlers everyone didn't stop surfing then.

The tone of the discussion on the two pages or so I could stand to read on the surfermag forum was incredibly and uniformly venomous. Not a moderate voice in the posts I saw. They seem absolutely determined to villify all SUP-ers whatever their equipment, etiquette, or capability may be. I would expect any contrary post to result in an instant pile-on, they sound like eight-year olds.

Concur, I considered logging on there to try to offer some reason, but I think it would be pointless.  Probably just young hotheads anyway.
