missed M2M but did this
« on: July 13, 2014, 11:25:17 AM »
Wished I could have been out there with JF808, Southbay and Covesurfer but got to take son and grandson out for DW on southshore.  Perfect day.  Onshore angle so freak factor for the 11 yr old boy was minimized.  He rode my SIC 14'V3 (hollow) and was ripping.  Such a great confidence builder because of how conditions build rather than the instant no-mans-land outside of Maliko Gulch.

First shot is an 11 yr who still plays in the sand.

Second is grandpa saying too many words for something that sounds so simple.  But I've seen things go south, very south.

Third is trying to relay to my son how important it is to stay close.  Of course my son paid no attention to me.  He's a 'grown man' at 37 and doesn't like being told what to do... by me.

Fourth.  We're off.

Fifth G-pa staying close.

Sixth and the kid is off and gliding.  By the end he was telling me how to catch glides.  Just bit my lip.

Last shot was out of Shirley's tele range but you can see how it was....

Your story makes me laugh. Couldn't help but substitute myself, my sons and my granddaughter in your places. Some things are just universal I guess.

Nice photos.  Probably seemed pretty easy for a kid who can swim as fast as he can--while upside down and without being able to see where he's going.

Yes but he still can get scared out there.  Whenever he fell, there was a spring in the water propelling him up and onto the board.  He's overheard too many shark stories.  But one time the board got sideways on him and in the rush to jump back on, he tried to mount from the lee side of the board and caught it in the face.

His 200 Back is 2.26 going into the state comp next weekend.  No SUP this week...  I'll send you a cool vid I did of underwater pool footage from a practice.

I'd miss pretty much anything to do that with my granddaughter someday.
