mini rudder idea

Anybody think this mini rudder would work?  2 options, could make it with bigger fin. This way it never gets hit by rock or if it breaks I have fixed rudder.

always worth a try, i would say ether get the fin and rudder as far apart as posable or put it right up behind the fin.

The Black one is actually a rudder for a 16-5 racing kayak.

I think it would work, but with a bigger leading fin trying to track straight, I think you would need a greater steer angle to get the same steering.  So, I think that there would be more drag on this system that a rudder by itself.  But if you're not racing or if you're dealing with a high risk of hitting things, this could still be a good idea.
