SUP Fishing with Dog
« on: April 25, 2014, 10:41:55 PM »
SUP fishing is fun but its nice to have company.  I have a few kids that will fish with me in the morning.  Some are hardy enough for SUP fishing but eventually I run out of commitment except for Gibson.  I just throw the board in the water and he is on.

Here we are on a Nantucket sleigh ride . . . . in Ct.  This was a good fighter.  The GoPro's battery gave out at the very end.  The fish was 38" pushing 20 lbs.

I am a believer in minimalist SUP fishing.  A hip pack with tackle, tether for the rod and paddle are mandatory.   Nothing on the deck.  I troll for the fish in Ct and have found that  it is helpful to just throw the paddle when a fish hits.

The best advice I ever received was to treat the board like a boat.  IT IS NOT A MOBILE CASTING PLATFORM.  It is a BOAT.  You will catch many more fish covering ground that going from spot to spot and fan casting.  Last summer we caught 1,300 lbs of Stripers.  This was slightly more than 1% of the catch.  99% were released.

That's something. Maintaining balance while luring the fish in.

I half expected the dog to eat the fish, which would be very dog-like.

Are these relatives that you visit on the East Coast?

It's family time on the East Coast.

This is "Ladies night" fishing.  My 10 year old daughter has the record and stated I am not allowed to teach  my (future) grandchildren because she has caught a bigger fish than me.

This video is my 9 year old acting as first mate with my 9 year old niece:

Beash... holy crap!!!!

I was expecting a little fish to pop up in the end.... that was great :D

I used to take my 2 daughters fishing, but we never caught anything :-[

I watched your earlier vid "Just Fishin".... well done!!! That was a keeper for sure... what a great memory on film. Brings the song to life... perfectly. Cherished memories for sure.

My daughters were that age yesterday... I woke up today... and they are 20 and 23.... Zoom.... those vids will keep them young forever :)

This morning's catch.

Once again the kids ran out of steam for the (pre) 6 am departure.  Frankly they have simply caught too many big fish (as crazy as that sounds).

Gibson was my handsome first mate.  The fish makes him look more poodle than doodle, Gibson weigh 75 lbs, and fish was roughly 3 feet long.  I was thinking it was going to be bigger, its first run nearly spooled me.  Once they get to be this size it's tough to tell whether they are 20 lbs or 40 lbs.

so, beasho, are you trolling a tube 'n' worm?  those things catch fish like crazy.  i used to use em but then i got sick of dealing with the live worms, buying them and then leaving em in the back of the car at the end of the day and then they rot 'n' stink to hi holy hell.  wish someone would come up with a fakie that works!

Nice fish.

My aussie cant sit still so there is no way to get him on a board.  Tried by the sandbar and it lasts about 2 seconds.
