Getting the Go-Pro app to work
« on: April 23, 2014, 04:06:51 PM »
Anybody have any ideas why I can't seem to get the app to connect to my go-pro. Go-Pro app wi-fi is on in the cameras settings. Restarted the app. Looks for wi-fi go-pro but doesn't connect.....bigger hammer?

Because it sucks toads? Because GoPro's remote tech is whacked? Because you've got some kind of hermantile android thingy?

Wow! Nice reply to a man who's having problem.

Stoneaxe ... on the Galaxy S4, to get wifi to work you would need to turn off the mobile data.  I used these steps: turn off mobile data, turn on gopro, turn on gopro wifi, turn on cellie wifi if not on already, in wifi look for the gopro network that you created and select it.  Good luck.

Make sure you're connecting to the camera's wifi, not your normal home or business wifi network.

Thanks bro that was helpful....hope you crash your drone into your own nuts next time... :-*

Thanks Rat and Sea....actually pretty easy once I read the directions in the users manual....  ::)

I don't know Bill...seems pretty good from what I can see on my android....must be that hermantile apple POS of yours that's whacked... :)

I like the ease of control for all the features. All the settings for each function are easily accessible. You can update your cameras software through it as well.

It had to get better. Software does that, hopefully.

Speaking of drone crashes. A quad copter dropped out of the sky right next to my car on the way to Hollywood tonight. That's a first.

OK, that was cool.

I flew my Quad H20 in 25kt wind yesterday with gusts at 30+. I'm working on the stability to see how it will do for shooting downwinders. It took some fiddling, and the gain settings I used would probably drive me crazy in light wind conditions, but they work in high wind, and I can switch between settings in the air with my lemming iPhone.

I updated my GoPro to the current firmware which makes the app work infinitely better. It's pretty usable now. It would be nice if the video stream updated faster, but that would require some hardware compression tricks in the camera I suspect. If it updated quicker I'd consider trying it for low-buck, short range FPV.

So, as Emily Litella would say...  "Never Mind"

Hey PB, you should try this with your quad. If may be safer than flying it into a palm tree.

Wow, that's a great idea. The buddy of mine that I'm staying with on Oahu this weekend is a fireworks nut. He lives on a little lake in Carnation, WA., and always does a major fireworks thing on his dock for 4th of July--it rivals the city display that runs just before he does his. I could hover right in the middle of it. I like it. Pretty unlikely that I'd get blown out of the sky. I'd just have to watch the voltage and make sure the "return to base" autopilot is working well. Gotta try that.
