Fin advice

Looking at my stock Naish Nalu centre fin......it is a 50/50 9 inch fin. To me the shape looks fine....not that I am any expert but the thickness....well....it is thick! I am wondering what the benefits of this is or whether it is beefed up for any particular reason. I have attached a piccy to give you an idea.

I am considering a single fin for the board....it is a 11 4 ....so reckon it is my flat water smaller waves machine.

Suppose what I am asking is whether such a thick fin at the front of the fin is going to slow it down a lot compared to a thinner fin at the front . Or.......does that thickness displace water effectively through to the trailing edge of the fin.

I guess it is a bit like an airplane wing - start thick then taper down to the trailing edge.......but how thick do you go at the front end?

Come on fin techies......got to be a few of you out there?
