My new Angulo Surfa 9'4"
« on: April 15, 2014, 01:48:35 PM »
I traded in my last years Surfa 10'4" for a new this years 9'4" at Cinnamon Rainbows.

This is the AST version. My previous board was the EST. This should be a little more rugged so I shouldn't have to worry about denting it as much, yet it feels almost as light. I'm guessing it's under 25 pounds. I'll weigh it tomorrow.

I love the graphics. The new shape looks nice. It has a little less rocker this year. It has the new ledge style handle. Just waiting for this wind to die down enough to use it.

That's right, it has the windsurf option which is awesome and I have a rig and sails I can use.

It'll take a while to get everything together though. I'm not sure if I have a foot that will fit it.

I windsurfed a lot back in the 80s.

Here's the carbon version showing the windsurf foot.

That's where I'm at. I windsurfed back in the 80's too. I have a mast, adjustable boom, and a handful of sails but no mast foot adapter. It would be fun to hook it up this summer.

Enjoy that new board.
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Probably a single screw. Either way I suggest that you get a european extension and base. The bayonet fitting is much easier to use, and unlike normal windsurfing equipment you'll find it necessary to carry board and sail separately most times. Best change I made to my gear for SUP sailing.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Bill,

It's a single screw. Is that uncommon? Why a European base? What's a bayonet fitting?

I've been away from the sport for quite a while.

Can you give me a little more info to go on, some links, brand names or key words to use?

Thanks

Shoals, you're not REALLY asking PonoBill about gear are you??   :o :o :o
That's like picking up "War and Peace" as a quick read.

US base.. for the poor, ignorant massses.  Oliver Twist sails w/ a US base.   :'(

Euro base..  for the 1%-er, "quad-copter" crowd.   ;D
Functionally superior, but it means you'd have to buy all new mast extensions as well...

In my experience, nothing makes windsurf gear more obsolete than a healthy SUP obsession.

I weighed it today on a reasonably accurate bathroom scale calibrated with a 25 lb barbell weight.

The new Surfa 9'4" AST weighs 24 pounds with fins.

That's only a pound more than the 2013 EST Surfa 10'4" which was a lighter construction.

The surf looked really good today but the wind was offshore 20 to 30, so I took it out on some protected flatwater, AKA the pond next to my house. I liked it a lot. Volume perfect. Stability perfect. Good glide for it's size. Turns on a dime.

We'll soon see how it surfs.

Shoals, Congratulations on your new Surfa 9'4". I am positive you will enjoy it as much as I have with the 8'8" Surfa that I picked up a while back. I am sure I will see you out in NH one of these days as I still get up there from time to time when the winds are more favorable than on the Cape. I noticed that the final production boards moved the handle to the center as opposed to the right hand offset on mine.

Having no prior windsurfing experience ever I now know what the extra screw and screw hole are for. I do know yours is stronger than the carbon version that I have. I put a big puka in the deck with my knee paddling over a breaking wave at Jenness the first week I had it. Fixed at CR and is good as new. I assume you are out of your drysuit by now! Enjoy that new ride big guy!

I'll keep an eye out for you. I mostly surf at Jenness because it's convenient. Sometimes the Wall.

I'm out of the drysuit for flatwater but I'll keep on using it in the surf until the water warms up or the days get too warm. When the average air temps get above 60 I'll switch to a wet suit.

Hi, have been eyeing the surfa, and am wondering if at 6'2 and 245lbs I'm too big for the 9'4.  Wondering how big you are?  Thanks,

I'm 6'1" and 155lbs.

Volume on the 9'4" is 155L. I could go with a little less volume but it rides great.

I guess it all depends on your ability.
