« on: March 20, 2014, 12:41:57 PM »
Does anyone have any fin recommendations for a Starboard Allstar 14' x 28' 2014 model.

Looking for a replacement Fin to use in all conditions

The fin supplied is badly finished, only profiled on one side & not straight.
I am amazed that a carbon board that costs a small fortune is supplied with a stock fin that  has been supplied across a range of boards for a couple of years now.
With design changes in boards are manufacturers saying that the fin has know bearing on the performance of a board.

Full review and story of it's creation coming soon, but check out

I tested it last year for many many miles and it is very slippery with great tracking on my 14 x 28" Ohana TR.

How is the new Allstar?   Have you tried it in any waves?

I can't really answer your fin question but would like to know how you are liking the Allstar? I was following another thread where you mentioned the board may be sitting too low in the water for your weight, so I'm interested on how that is working out for you? I'm considering the Allstar as an all-around touring board. I'm not as heavy as you (around 95ish-100kgs winterweight) but would be packing some gear on it for overnighters and extended day trips and handling with extra weight is important.

id get in touch with your dealer, that sounds pretty fishy.  i've owned several starboard ws boards and sups and have found the stock fins are pretty good. maybe not the very best but at least finished on both sides  :o

Robon really like the Allstar nice & stable & handles my weight easily, reckon it would carry some additional weight well.

Downwinddave my dealer was less than impressed with the fin as well & is returning it. Will see how it turns out.

Is it the red fin that came with the board? The fin that came with my Turtle Bay All Star is perfectly symmetrical and well finished. I'm sure there is a warranty issue there.

Saying that, I've gone for a bigger hatchet fin with a broader base than the stock fin, seems to surf better and give a touch more stability, which is important with the narrow and fine tail Turtle Bay.

We received last year's ALL Stars with very fine Hexcell core fiberglass fins.  They look just like the attchment I hopefully just added

My 8.5" Bat fin would be the fin for the 14' Allstar. Mahalo,Larry

Picked up the new FCS Erin Terrien for my 2014 All Star 14' x 26.5" and it rules. The Terrien is a shallow draft pivot fin with an early ramp to shed weeds and a bump out the back for better straight line tracking.  The 2014 All Stars do not need a lot of fin to make them work.  I was looking for a fin that would foot steer better then my Futures and this fin did the trick.  Since you're on the 28" and I'll assume bigger then me, I'd also recommend the Futures Byron Kurt.  It's a bit bigger with more trail and generally the fin I'll use in rougher conditions.
