Looking forward to my 4th CCBC this summer.  Like many of the guys said before, this is an amazing event for such a great cause, Christopher's Haven.  Fund raising is a big part of the CCBC

The past three CCBCs we faced  different conditions.   As I remember my first CCBC was pretty decent weather although being my first time, I was terrified and it was eye opening despite my hard training. The second was legendary as we had brutally strong head winds the last 15 miles or so and it took 12+ hours and last year we had nice, calm winds but a RIDICULOUS 1-2 ft side chop the last 20 miles.  I think I paddled on one side for 6 hrs straight.  So what I am suggesting is be sure to train in and prepare for all conditions.  I am hoping one of these years we get a glorious west wind the entire day...also it is advertised as a 34 mile paddle, the last three years it's been more like 36-38 miles...

Just signed on for my third. Game on baby! I've been hitting it hard during the weekends. I can see time is going to be a factor in training this summer so I've been doing some more intense type training. Last weekend on Saturday, I headed upwind in 15 knots from Falmouth Beach  to Nobska Light and on to Woods Hole. From there I headed about half way out in the shipping channel and cruised a few miles back with the swell and 15 to 17 knots at my back- an awesome 2 1/2 hour session! Sunday I hit Marshfield yacht club and took a right against the out going tide towards the bridge, probably a few hundred yards. As I got closer to the bridge and the water funneled narrower, I got maybe 2 feet of advance for every 4 or 5 paddles. I 'd paddle as hard as I could for as long as I could and turned around for the outgoing tide down drifter. I did this about 7or 8 times, Now for the hard part- raising money!
I also noticed there is 50+ spots left for the event...Come on boys and girls, get off that fence

After a tough 13.5 mile training paddle this past Friday in some wind and chop I signed up for my second CCBC.

Like Piece of 8 said "Come on boys and girls, get off that fence", this is the New England SUP Event of Events, if you haven't done a CCBC, you haven't challenged yourself !!

Great Event for a Great Cause !!

I've been surprised in years past how well even some relatively untrained people do. Sure, they lag behind, and they may wind up in the boat, but some don't. The biggest factor in successfully going long is the desire to do it. You just keep going. It's not a race, so it's not fast and hard. Just long. And very fun.

I have to agree with you on that Bill..four years ago was my first CCBC and I remember meeting a guy the night before the event who started SUP only 3 months before.  His mother had died of cancer, so in tribute he would enter and participate in as many cancer benefits as he could.  I was concerned for him and kept an eye on him and would circle back making sure he was OK..he did finish which was amazing.  Turns out he was a good guy to befriend as his wife works for the Bruins/TD Garden and we were invited to their Stanley Cup party... :D

One of my only regrets on the success of the CCBC is that I don't get to know everyone anymore. The friendships that have been fostered before/during and after the event are a big part of what makes it special. It's easy to get friendly with folks when you're all pulling for the same goal and facing the same challenge. The bond gets deeper faster as well. I've made more friends in the last 6 years than I did the previous 50...hhmmm....maybe that says more about the pre-SUP, pre-CCBC me..... :P

Aug. 16th is coming quick and its time to not plan , or cancel any plans, not related to paddling. ;D .
I talked to a couple of zoners and  a CCBCr about maybe getting a training paddle together in Plymouth Harbor on Saturday. I am going to plan on Saturday at 10:00 at Stephens Field off of Rt. 3A and behind Plymouth beach as a good starting point ,as high tide is noontime and parking is free. Depending on the wind velocity, miles and route are up for discussion on site. 10-15 miles would be ideal for me. I will be there either paddling alone or with as many people that would like to join in. PM me or post here if interested...or just show up! Its time to rip some miles guys.

I won't be there this Saturday. Taking Friday off and headed north to hang with Bill for the weekend. I'll be getting in some miles for sure. have fun...give Chaser a yell, I know he wants to get some miles in. He's usually a dawn patrol on the Dux bay side kind of guy.

Hope you guys got some miles in. Bill and I did a short easy paddle in Marblehead on Friday and went up and raced the Paddle to the Point on Saturday. Got in some pre- and post waves too. Waves were surprisingly fun, wasn't in the forecast so that was a nice surprise. Made the race more fun as well.
LOL...we brought the speedboard up with us and Bill was going to use it to race but they didn't have an unlimited class and more importantly wrestling that 18' beast in and out of shore break would have been fun for the spectators but not for Bill's shoulder 2 months out from surgery. They had a fun course setup in a W with the bottom of the W being in the break. So Bill paddled my old 12-6 and I "raced" on my 9-8.....and didn't come in last.... ;)
