On the xps is the picture it was just actually a drill bit and yes it did melt it a little I have been using a burr since and it cuts great the trick is to get speeds and feeds correct to minimise the chances

That looks really good. Almost no sanding required. For such a small scale, the detail is there. Impressive!

It looks like the chuck might have made contact when you cut it deep. I've hand routed a block using guides, but I had to make preliminary passes just to get the thickness. Can you program that into one file. In other words, will your depth max out, or will a long cutting head handle most blocks? I'm sure you have limits.

It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

Yes on that first one I set it to deep in the block and it touched. I have been having problems with finding a cutter that is long enough to do it in one pass without spending crazy money however yesterday I managed to get some one who can make a extension for the bit so it will work how ever like you say I will just have to do multiple passes to get to the depth un till I can afford a longer cutter.

Super Clean !

Nice machine..

What was the cutting time on this side?

How do you locate 0,0,0  for the other side?

cutting time was long on this as I had it set to do multiple roughing passes and at a low feed rate because of the size of the cutter however I have a large cutter on the way which will do most boards in a single pass. I could probably get this 6' board down to 20min per side to this Finnish if not faster. I have set 000 to the end of the block at the moment as im Yet to make any sort of registration system but that will follow soon as will vacuum hold down but first I wanted to just see it cut after so long in the making!

Yes I had a extension made for it so as to have some clearance but means I have to do 3-4 roughing passes on a short board to get to depth. I have now however just purchased a 5" cutter at a wacking $740! Which gives you a idea of what something like this costs, but it's no worse than loosing that on purchasing a new board every year or so

Let's hope so although I don't think it will be in cutting boards.
Tbh the Simmons sup I did has never been surfed. I built it for some one else but it fell through so it's still sitting on the rack I should realy try selling it as it's to big for me and you would find it hard to get me off my 7'4 fish

Very impressive for a private home build. Are there many people that attempt to build garage CnC's ... or are you breaking ground?

I can't imagine the thrill you felt as that cut came out of the blank... it looks so perfect.... well done!

Yes there is quite a lot of home built cnc's but most very small nothing on this scale though and thigs get complicated faster than you think when you bump it up in size. I'm lucky I had my girlfriends dad who is a electronics engineer to help as there were a few unforcean problems I would have struggled to ever find. Still slightly amazed I have got it working. I have literally spent every last second over the last year planing and figuring stuff out it is a nice reward to see it going and before the year is out!
