Super Thin and/or Comfortable Wetsuits?
« on: February 28, 2014, 02:08:28 PM »

What are your favorite super light, thin, and/or comfortable suits?  Even a
full-body rash guard would work if there is such a thing!

I don't really need a suit for temps but I have very sensitive skin I try to
keep out of the Sun.  Even worse though, is I get this terrible chafing below
my knees from sitting prone on my board.  So, even though it is warm where
I surf, I'm just gonna wear a suit.

The last wetsuit I owned was an Oneill Gooru which they don't seem to make anymore.

I found the Henderson 1.5 mm Mens Microprene 2 One Piece Jumpsuit on Leisure Pro dive emporium.  It looks pretty comfortable.

I've been thinking about a 2mm full suit.

3/2 is just killing me even in 60 degree weather.

I'm red faced for an hour.
Taller than most, shorter than others.

I've gone the last two winters in So Cal with an Oneill long john 2mm and a 1.5 mil long sleeve rash guard from rip curl if it's really chilly.  I haven't worn the long sleeve top yet this winter and usually go with just a surf shirt.  I find that this combo does everything south of Gaviota just fine.

Henderson makes a .5 mil wetsuit skin... cost $140 + or -
Never seen one... wouldn't wear one (much too clingy )
......but sounds like a good fix for what you are using it for

SUPreme short sleeve full.  1.5MM.  Super comfortable.  Cheap too.  I think I paid around $110 or $125 for it.

NRS Hydroskin .5 farmer john + long sleeve rash guard.  Hydroskin is great, thin but warm.   w/ non-petroleum sourced neoprene.

Or if you don't need the neoprene, NRS also makes a pant called the H2Core Lightweight... not sure how it'd perform fully submerged a lot though, but I think it'd be fine.  They also make tops in this fabric.

Paddle sports brands like NRS make good stuff for the application you're looking for...

9'3 Pearson Arrow custom (prone)

The rip curl e4 stuff is ridiculously flexy.  Super comfy, warm but not too warm.  Best wetsuits ever IMO.

I have an allergy to the sun which causes a severe rash. The solution for me when I travel to warm water is to coverup. O'Neill used  to make a full body rash guard which worked well. Since they discontinued that product I wear O'Neill's long sleeve rash guard with a hood. For my legs I wear Coolibar swim tights. And then any trunks over the leg rash guard pants for wear resistance.

Loose fitting KoreDry shirts are awesome for sun protection. I'm never without mine in the summer.

The material doesn't absorb water so it dries incredibly fast. It's super breathable so you won't overheat, even on the hottest days.

Way more comfortable than a tight rashguard or wetsuit.

The Kore dry apparel look interesting and I need to try them out. Might be good beach wear. But for me needing full coverage when I surf (prone or standup) the rash guard works the best. I have traveled to Indo several times and Mainland Mexico in this getup and it's worked well. Good sun protection. With standup your whole body is in the sun.

I'm trying to solve this problem too. Have 3 -2 short sleeve long legged, but its too hot even in 38 c. Wearing light jacket over to cover arms.  Dry suit I have is like portable sauna. I went out in my 5-3 full suit in 40c once and almost got heat stroke.
