Naish Nalu 9'6 x 28" - Experiences?
« on: January 28, 2014, 06:03:22 PM »
I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a used '11 Naish Nalu 9'6 - it's 28" wide and is 135L. I'm 170lbs. Experienced paddler.

Does anyone have this board or have any experience or thoughts on this board? I've ridden the 10'6 x 28" Nalu extensively and loved it, picked up the smallest waves with ease but could surf well in overhead surf. But am worried losing the foot in length will sacrifice glide and ability to catch smaller waves.

How does the board glide on smaller waves? It will be used for surfing waves from 2' (most often) to 8'+ (a few times a year in Hawaii) and wakesurfing behind boats in the summer on the lake.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I've never ridden it but have heard good things...  I'm about 185-190lb and use the older 9'0 x 26" nalu as my go-to board for 2-6' surf, I reckon the 9'6 would be a similar template but better for heavier person.

I have one, and love it. It has a nice longboard feel.
I’m 160 lbs and use it in the kind of waves you are talking about. Mostly the small ones, but some bigger ones now and then.
I like it being narrow. It’s fast to pick up speed to catch a wave, and fast on the face. Every time I borrow another board, they feel too wide and slow by comparison.
But take extra care if you are planning to fly it to Hawaii. The construction is not bomb proof as other boards I’ve had.
Starboard 12'2 x 26
Naish Javelin 14 x 26
Naish Nalu 9'6 x 28
Starboard Hypernut 7'4 x 30 + foil
Starboard All Star 12'6 x 26

Awesome - thanks for the feedback guys! I'll be picking it up!

DJ do you have any thoughts on this board? Or the 9'5 Hokua (thinking about picking this up as well for the girlfriend, cuz you can ship two boards in one bag on the plane)?
