SUP Lofoten - north of the Arctic Circle
« on: December 12, 2013, 05:33:16 AM »
In July this summer I traveled up to the Lofoten islands in North Norway together with Emil, a friend of mine. We brought our Starboard Astro Touring 12´6" x 30, and visited different places to paddle during our week-long stay. Unfortunately, we experienced windy and wet weather some days during this week, but we did manage to get out in the freezing Norwegian Sea every other day. Sea temperature was about 12 degrees C (50 F), so a wetsuit is necessary also during summer.

Thankyou Knut!  Mind blowing beautiful place.   Pretty easy to see how Norse mythology got started.... :o

All I can say is please post more trip reports more often.

Wow, that's beautiful!  50 degrees is not as cold as I thought it would be.  I'll bet winter water temps are in the 30's.

Fjunny ^.

Very beautiful photos.

A few people post great photos of touring in cold places.  It's sort of perverse that the more beautiful the scenery is to me, the colder the water.

As a person of Norwegian decent and never having been there, all I can say is Fantastic!.  It's been years since I've thought about making a trip there, but I'm thinking about it now. My family was from Oslo, beautiful country, thanks for posting.

Tribalthunder, here´s a video from march, when Emil and I paddled past chunks of ice among the islands and in the harbor of your family´s home town, Oslo:
