Nub for a Longboard finbox
« on: November 21, 2013, 12:14:14 PM »
I want to try out these twin fins from my kid's surfboard.  I have on my SUP, but I want to but a nubster type trailer.

Where can I get an inexpensive nubster for a longboard center finbox?

Vonsol has a nubster, knubster, but it's quite pricey.

FCS TMF (The middle finger) is composite/plastic...perfect except it's not for a longboard finbox.  I thnk FCS makes one too (I guess I can get an adapter for the FCS).

I see paying fiberglass fin prices for a nub that doesn't have very much flex or weight differences from plastic.

Any other options?

Dunno what you think is inexpensive...but, my 2.25" and 3 3/16" StubNub centers with bamboo cores are $29 and $32, respectively...

I was thinking under $20, but the its a possibility.  Maybe I should try a straight twin fin before I make a decision.  It's for a Blair 8'10".  I just wanted to see what would happen.  I don't think it'll work that well since the fins are moved up and I haven't seen to many pintail twins.

If you've got an FCS fin box adapter for the center box Foam-EZ has them for $16.  http://www.foamez.com/fcs-knubster-fin-kelly-slater-p-865.html

You can always take an old beat up fin and cut your own.

Futures makes a plastic one that fits a long board box with bolt and plate. I bought one in my quad experiments. Glass one is foolishly expensive! Plastics, m'boy, plastics!

FCS Finbox adapter which is just under $20 bucks plus a plastic nub would put me around more that I hoped, BUT would allow other options to try out.  Is there a Futures adapter?

Von sol has the Nubster/guitar pick for longboard finboxes for $35.

jd: Now that's an great idea!  Cut and sand one up!  I think I have fiberglass fin laying around!   WINNER!

Thanks Larry.  I may take you up on that...screwless?

I just want screw around with fins a bit.  I'm not sure what I'm looking for in the performance of my board. I think I'm just old and fat now and I can't pull the same stuff off like when I was younger.

Outside - I have a fin. but my dremel is broken.  It may take longer that anticipated.
