foiling sup
« on: October 23, 2013, 10:34:58 AM »
just wondering if anyone on here has had any experience with the few foiling sups that have been built in the past. after seeing all the ac72's i am very keen to nock something up and see what happens for a bit of a larf. Im thinking of doing a pretty fast build and just slamming it on a old cut down 9'8 race board that is lying in the garden in the next few day. I have a good background in every aspect of airomodeling which helps a little with the hole wing thing but the only foiling i have done was on a air chair behind a boat back in the day.

so just looking for ideas to put into a think tank. one idea that is floating around is rather than the one foil at the rear is to have a set up similar to a ac72 with a foil on each rail and one on the tail but that would probably need some sort of trim adjustment and not sure if you could put it on a rail with two foils on the rail?

kinda yea although the ac 72 dont go right the way across, however a design more like a traditional hydrofoil boat may allow for better turning.

How do you plan on developing that kind of speed?
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

its been done before but will be a first for me, thinking of going the conventional route to start with to see what happens they maybe try other options after.

Cant wait to see how this works.  Maybe a small foil that is just installed in the center fin box?  Not sure what the advantage would be on a wave other than reduced drag.  May be hard to handle.  Would love to try it out!

Have you watched the foiling Moth videos?  These things have proven tech that the almost average sailor can almost afford. As opposed to the AC72's and their rock stars.

At about 1:35 note the wand at the nose of the moth to control pitch. That might work on a board if you had a centre foil and an aft foil.  Turning might be hard without a rudder. Maybe you could figure out some automatic articulation of the aft foil akin to skateboard trucks, ie the aft foil could twist as you initiate a turn.

Tow in sup?? How much speed would you need dropping in to get up on the foils. Madness - gotta love it! Everyone thought the tow in foils were nuts and they work fine. Unless you don't like wearing boots in the water!
