That's a nice synopsis that addresses all the basics.  Good examples too.  Great potential for expanding the depth of what is/can be a confusing topic.

Nice of you to pass on the tribal knowledge Larry.

Mahalo back at ya.

It ain't over until the fat board sinks....

Larry, I met you about a month ago at a small race in Long Beach.  We talked about fins for awhile, I was running your John Becker fin on my 12'6 Infinity.  In flat water, that fin feels great, tracks very well and has no noticeable drag or that feeling of being over finned.  In the open ocean, I struggle a lot with that fin.  Does that fin have too much surface area and tend to get pushed around more in side chop/current?  I was doing constant balance checks when paddling parallel to the shore.  At the BOP, I used the Jamie Mitchell race fin which made it more comfortable but still not great.  Any recommendation for a fin that would be good for west coast open ocean races/distance paddling in rougher conditions?  Thanks again for your insight.

Yes I remember you were riding Billy's board. That was my first race that I raced in, 3 miles on my 10'6" running Twins with Ventral in middle between the twins. What a fun Race!

You are right what you felt on that 12'6". To much core length on the Bat for that volume board with a pulled in tail. The Gladiator Hybrid was the fin Dave used in the Battle of the Paddle for the distance race because of alot of eliments around him but still had room and ease to maneuver.

I already know how to select the right race fin. Couldn't be easier. Call and ask you what you think..... 8)

I still can't believe how perfect the CHill is for my Vec 14. I've always loved the board but you made it complete. Faster, better tracking, and more stable, the first being a product of the 2nd and 3rd. Being able to speak to a master craftsman about his trade and getting an expert assessment of your needs is pretty rare these days. I had the board out in messy choppy slop and knee to waist waves for two hours on Sunday for a workout. I was dry for the 1st hour....no way that would have been the case with the old fin (another race weed fin) Beers are on me if you ever make it out to New England...or when I get out there one of these days.

Ready when you are Mike. Others are starting to follow the Allison Race Twin Movement: The Chill 4A Flex is a good fin for that Ron House.

Need advice on toe in angle On twins.
And want to order twins from you Larry. Board is 16'6".
Was not planning on installing ventral until after board is done and can confirm where I am standing.
