Drug Testing at this years BOP
« on: September 17, 2013, 03:34:24 PM »
Looks like mandatory drug testing has finally hit the SUP world at this years BOP:

Time to see who "doesn't make the cut" this year.

Well, they've been given fair warning. If they're smart (or rather their doctors are) they will have timed their dosing protocols  to achieve maximum performance enhancement with minimum potential for popping positive. I'll be surprised if you see anyone get caught.

I wonder if "medical" marijuana is a disqualifying drug.

I plan on taking Ibuprofen the day before, using Alcohol the night before. For sure Caffeine on the morning of the race, then hit the beer garden for some more Alcohol right after the race. I won't be doing the Elite race anyway. If they still want some of my pee in a cup, they are welcome to it.
It's not overhead to me!

They pay extra for that in New York City, I hear.

Unfortunately in New York City the scent of urine is never too far away. No shortage of that. Maybe we could use a little extra of the good stuff...

That would be stupid if it were, it's not a performance-enhancing drug.  If the BOP winner does it stoned, all the more impressive  :P

Never knew my asthma inhaler was a performance enhancer!
My first thought after seeing Fog City's comment was about Rick Demont, a 16-year-old U.S. swimmer who won a gold in the 400m free in the 1972 Olympics--first man under 4 minutes--only to have it stripped for having a banned substance in an asthma medication he needed.  He even declared it beforehand, but the U.S. Committee didn't check to see if it was legal, and didn't defend him well.  He was also the world-record holder in the 1500 but couldn't swim that, or any of many other swims and relay swims he could've medalled in, because he was banned from further swims.

FCR--it gets worse than just your example of medical marijuana.  What about the guy from Washington, or any other state where it's legal, who smokes some at home legally, the same as drinking a beer, then comes down to compete?

Maybe the idea is to not just ban performance-enhancing substances, but also ones that make you THINK you're performing better.

Asthma inhalers usually are or contain some form of steroid. But read the section on Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE).

Never knew my asthma inhaler was a performance enhancer!
