NFL's Drew Brees on SUPing
« on: September 08, 2013, 07:47:52 AM »
AM: What’s a fun recreational activity that also gives you a great workout?
DB: Listen, paddleboarding is awesome!  Think about what’s working when you’re on that board -- in order for you to balance out on open ocean, everything has got to be working. Your lower extremities are working extremely hard just to balance. You’re in this constant state of just flexion. Your glutes are working, your hammies, your calves, your feet, your ankles -- everything. And then, as you paddle, and obviously you can just go out there and do it as recreation and you’re nice and relaxed, but if you actually get into the paddling, think about the rotational element with your core. If you go out and you paddle with some intensity for 30-45 minutes, the next day you are going to be hurting. And once you start catching waves, well, that’s a whole new element. It’s something I’m kind of getting into.
Boards:

8-10 x 31 Egg
8-11 X 32 Double wing Fangtail Tom Whitaker
8-6 X 30 1\2  Inbetweener Tom Whitaker
8-4 x 30 Hyper quad Tom Whitaker (wife's now)
8-4 X 31 1\4.  Round (wide) Diamond Tail Quad Tom Whitaker
9-4 X 30 1\2. Swallow Stinger Quad Tom Whitaker (ex wifes now)
10-0 Brusurf for teach

piece of 8

Uh-Oh... this is the beginning stages of DB's addiction, especially the surfing part. Next, look for him to get fined for missing practice...after looking at swellinfo for the surf forcast and reports of him hitting the waves by locals.

But seriously,he was spot on in his description of our sport.

I walked out of the trailer at road America this afternoon an got wolf whistles from the gals in the pits. Admittedly, they were mostly 40 plus ( no, not bra size) and yes--we're in Wisconsin where I'm a skinny guy. But I'll take it. Body by SUP. with a little help from mark sisson.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Pono,
If you're going to hunt cougar, you better have a plan to deal with the cat.

After a day of sup surfing, every muscle in my body feels it.  Good for Drew....but, he ain't got nothin' on our Pono.

Drew can probably deadlift and squat over 300 lbs. and SUP has this effect on him? Maybe his team should just get some boards and go paddle instead of training conventionally. 8)
Boards:

8-10 x 31 Egg
8-11 X 32 Double wing Fangtail Tom Whitaker
8-6 X 30 1\2  Inbetweener Tom Whitaker
8-4 x 30 Hyper quad Tom Whitaker (wife's now)
8-4 X 31 1\4.  Round (wide) Diamond Tail Quad Tom Whitaker
9-4 X 30 1\2. Swallow Stinger Quad Tom Whitaker (ex wifes now)

Drew needs a good paddle.  He's probably a stress tester on shafts
