what a difference 2" makes!
« on: August 28, 2013, 06:30:30 PM »
Ok ok, insert the "that's what she said" jokes  ;D ;D ;D

In all seriousness, my latest race paddle is cut 2" shorter than my old race paddle.  I just bought a QuickBlade Kanaha Magic 90" blade cut at 80". My other is a Werner M1000 cut at 82".

I took the Magic out today for some sprint work and buoy turns. For my general stroke I drive hard with my top arm, like doing a dumbell overhead press. Before with the added length i was forced to drive up and it felt a bit odd at times and uncomfortable. Now, with the the 2" diff I have leverage and can drive down instead of up.  Duh!?!  Way more powerful!

Before I bought the 80" Magic I had a feeling a little shorter would "feel" better as in more comfortable.  But, I am super stoked with the added power in the power phase of my stroke with a 2" shorter paddle.  In this case less really is more  :D

Free ...what is the SSI on your QB ? Is yours 38 or 40, just curious as I am leaning toward this paddle only I think i'd prefer the 38 (I currently use a QB with a 36 so a slightly stiffer paddle might give me some extra power). Also what kind of grip is yours, curious is you went with the EVA wrapped or straight carbon?

40. Initial thought is 38 would be better. Straight carbon handle.

Thanks Free, is that paddle by chance the one that Kayadogg was selling before he left for the west coast?

We don't have much reference here without knowing how much overhead?  From XX to YY?

I'm no PDX, but he might say, couldn't you just stick it in 2" deeper ?

I don't know what you guys are referring to!  Would I make jokes like what I think you're implying?

Granted, there has been a post or two of mine where I could see how someone could come up with a second meaning to whatever I said.  After all, there was a study once that showed that the majority of people--69% in fact--can find something dirty in anything they read.
