$99 Costco SUP
« on: August 16, 2013, 12:30:09 PM »
Just to let ya'll know, if your under 180lbs and have some talent, you can stand-up paddle the Wavestorm 8'0" Foamie from Costco.  Yes, pics will be taken of this atrocity. Boludo and I were toying with the idea, and it works. It probably bows in the middle when I'm on it...and sinks if not paddling furiously in a surf-stance.

Now I've got these crazy ideas spinning of getting a custom 7'4"x24"x?? That floats me.  The narrow width will be epic (and could be an epic fail).

:)

Great minds. I did this last week to shame a buddy who said SUP looked easy. I gave him my board and after he struggled for 5min to leave his knees I took the paddle and circled him on the WaveStorm 8' I'd traded him for.

136 lbs 5'8" apparently I now ride a 8'0" X 22"... For a few feet at least.  ;)

Send pics or lets bring them to Timapalooza and film.

I just saw one of those yesterday during my monthly Costco run, and I have no problem with them.
It's been said here before, but it might be worth repeating, nothing wrong with a super cheap entry level board.  Once the buyer gets the hang of it, he'll want to move onto a better board.  Anything that helps the sport grow is a good thing, unless you are of the those that says that there are already too many people doing this.
If you're one of those, well then you've already lost.
It takes a quiver to do that.

Weasel, so we're clear, this is the 8' longboard we're talking about. Not the SUP. 22" wide.

It re-defines wobbly.

Actually, not wobbly, due to my mass x floatation x sinking rate of board.  It's quite stable six inches under water.

I'm going to borrow an AIPA 8'4"x23" epoxy board from Boardworks and paddle that.  I gotta stay ahead of the curve.  You know...riding short Sups three years ago...now everyone's cheating by getting SimSups that at shorter, but super wide.

Ah but I beat the game. I bought mine damaged on CL and repaired it with marine epoxy.

Reuse, recycle. And now all of my friends are learning on it.

Cardiff, I'm actually now considering a longboard style that might pass as a real longboard. Sort of a hybrid.

I understand waste and the hatred it brings.  Working in the food industry, there's no reason starving people should be...well, starving.  We toss tens of thousands of dollars worth of food weekly, just at my building.

In a sense, every thing we use will be wasted someday. Broken surfboards, if repairable, are great to giveaway. A $99 surfboard with a bulletproof return policy?...too appealing to many buyers.  But beware, as its made in China,  and you get what you pay for.

I guess the point of my thread is...the floatation limit is 50% physics and 50% psychological.

Blah blah...I'm tired and hungry.  Eat, nap, paddle later.

Recently sold my 404 and am about to sell my Nalu to people who tried the costco boards and liked paddling, but realized they were a POS. Used boards fit in nicely between Costco and real retail boards.
