I have this big playlist on my phone called BigNoisy that I shuffle and paddle with. With all the time on the water I've been spending lately, it's getting too familiar so I need to build a new one. The current list is heavy on Coldplay, with some George Thoroughgood, a little Fleetwood Mac, and random stuff. Not quite peppy enough for paddling.

So here's the question--what's your best choice for paddle music. I need something that will help me break 1:10
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Paddle music, oh man, there is so much out there, my tastes are very eclectic, all over the place, new, old, doesn't matter, but to me it's all about rhythm which can be any type of music.  Some of my favs, some of which I've already posted, like the two Marvin Gaye songs I recently posted, excellent paddling rhythm.  A small sample ~

Willie Nelson ~ Graceland (Paul Simon cover)
Still is still moving to me (w/ Toots Hibbert)
Blink 182 ~ Miss you
Vance Joy ~ Riptide
George Ezra ~ Budapest
Lorde ~ Glory and Gore
Kongos ~ I want to know
               I'm only joking
               Come with me now
Empire of the Sun ~ Walking on a Dream
Mark Knopfler ~ Speedway at Nazareth
                        Coyote
                        el Macho
                        Marbletown
                        Hill farmer's blues
Adrian Belew ~ Phone call from the Moon
Milky Chance ~ Down by the River (not a Neil Young cover)
Gotye ~ Somebody that I used to know
Jane's Addiction ~ Summertime Rolls
                           Jane Says
                           Pets
Slightly Stoopid ~ This Joint
                           Everything you need
                           Officer
The Clash ~ Charlie don't surf
                   Straight to Hell
Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros ~ Coma Girl
                                                     Johnny Appleseed
                                                     Get down Moses
                                                     Gold and Silver
                                                     Long Shadow
Kid Rock ~ Black Chick White Guy
You never met a MF quite like Me
                 Cowboy
Blackstreet ~ No diggity
Soul to Soul ~ Back to life
Lucinda Williams ~ Joy
                            Can't let go
John Mellencamp ~ Jailhouse Rock (Elvis cover)
The White Stripes ~ Seven Nation Army
Los Lobos ~ Kiko and the Lavender Moon
                  Angle Dance
                  Emile
Tom Petty ~ Breakdown
                   Spike
                   Don't do me like that
                   Listen to her heart
                   Luna
Queen ~ Body Language
              Fat bottom girls
The Temptations ~ Cloud Nine
                            Papa was a rolling stone
                            Ball of confusion
RHCP ~ Under the Bridge
            Scar Tissue
            Road Trippin'

Well that ought to get you from Rufus to the Event site.

It takes a quiver to do that.

Need a pick me up while paddling?  This is the best ode to murderous road rage by anyone.

On Saturday, 20 August 2016 all of Canada will be watching its favourite bar band's final show. For those without tickets, try here:

Or show up at one of these spots:

For a primer, this page has some decent links to video:

Thanks for that weasel. I'm working on building that list. We should probably start a new thread for that. I wonder how many people paddle with music. It seems as though I'm the only one here in the gorge.

I do everything to music, like I used to say about pot, "it turns a chore into an adventure".
It takes a quiver to do that.

Metallica. Any albums dated pre 2000. Plenty of juice. Able to understand the words. Strong musicianship. Some heady lyrics to dive into to keep you away from the monotony of paddling.

Rythm you say? Try some African desert rock: Bombino, Tinariwen, Tamikrest, Terakaft, Alu Farka Toure etc.

Other notables: Trevor Hall, Thundercat, Nahke & Medicine for the People

I was at this very show in NOLA (venue Checkpoint Charle's) 5 years ago.  A couple poor tourists managed to get dragged out the front door and bloodied up pretty bad.  Gotta love a punk show at Check Point Charle's.  LoL.

Back to some music, politics is driving me nuts!
These guys were on SNL this last week, I've been enjoying their music most of the summer.

It takes a quiver to do that.

Lately, Ive been into the So-Cal resurgence of SURF ROCK. Definitely worthy. Comes with a hint of garage/psych mixed in but surf none the less. Here are a few bands that are killing it right now...Allah-las, Mystic Braves, The Growlers. This music has actually led me to start playing guitar for the first time too so I'm grateful for it. Enjoy.

Thank you for the introduction to the Growlers...they have quickly become a staple in my playlists.  Allah Las is also exceptional, but I have yet yo give the Mystic Braves much of a listen.

Figured we needed a little Zep in this thread

My favorite distance paddle tune is The Rain Song.....here is a cool acoustic version with Page, Plant & the London Metropolitan Orchestra
