Wasn't 100% sure of the name, but the image confirmed the knot you used was the one I was going to suggest. Haven't yet had the leash break on me. Good to know it works...

I've found that for practical purposes, one need only 3 knots in his bag.   the bowline, the trucker's hitch, and the improved something or other (the one with the 5 twists, your basic fisherman's knot).   For a broken leash, I use a hose clamp covered up with duct tape.   it helps to cut, or break off the excess metal before taping over it.  if you have one in your bag, it's an easy field repair.
Beer is good for you!

I've broken many leash's they all popped at the ankle strap or board and the best knot to tie in the water is a bowline.Tie through the ankle strap or rail saver which ever end it broke at and you need to put your feet on the board and pull back really hard to make sure it bites down and you are right to go for the rest of the session. ;)

Here is a pic of a Bowline , a good way to remember the knot is make a loop and the rabbit comes out of it's hole around the tree and back into it's hole...

Bowline. If you don't know any other knot you'll survive. Unless, of course, you're fishing, in which case there are about three you need.

You want to join to ropes? Two bow lines. Lasso? A bowline. And you can do almost anything with that.

Nice pic, by the way. Love the description, Piros.

Square knot's an easy knot - "right over left, then under; left over right then under" - with lots of uses (including tying two pieces of a broken line back together). Truckers hitch and 2 half hitches are what I use to quickly tie my board to my car.

Bowline, square knot, half hitch, trucker's hitch, clove hitch, improved clinch knot, nail knot, Bimini twist, surgeon's knot--the basics.  The most common knot I tie is the bowline, though I do it tugboat style, which is very fast, but not as pretty.

The two I remember:

It may not be the best knot to go with, but as long as both lines are the same, the reef knot has always held up well...

For tying different types of line together a sheet bend has worked for me....

Piros

I normally break the leash at the ankle connection too.

Never thought of the bowline through the culf ?

have to try that next time.

thanks

Whatever knot you use, bowline or sheet bend, wrapping them in gaffa tape will make it seriously strong! :)
