Boundaries? You have got to be kidding me!

Only time I have ever been told I could not be on the water was at a camp site at the Gates of Ladore in Dinosaur National Monument. I just wanted to paddle up and down the Yampa River near camp ground to try a new SUP i had rented. Park Ranger asked if i was going to put in there, and I told him was just going to tool around on river near camp site. He informed me that no one can go on river there without a permit to run that section of river through the canyon. That I can understand because of safety issues, and he said that I could use the river a few miles up the road in Browns Park.

San Elijo lagoon is multi use. The center of the lagoon is reserved for powered boats, the edges for everyone else. It works really well. Wake boarders, wave runners, paddleboards, kayaks, and fishermen all share the same lagoon without a hitch.

Lake Elsinore in SoCal...... they have boundaries for just about everyone.  And frankly, I wouldn't want to be in the high speed area on a SUP anyway!!

Oh, I meant Agua Holianda lagoon, not San Elijo.

As a USCG capt I can tell you there are many occasions that Paddle craft MUST give way to powercraft

That may be true, but it doesn’t matter much if the power craft isn’t adhering to it.  Best to stay out of the way.

You got that right.  Around here I'm scouting the horizon for ships or barges getting set to enter Kahului harbor or exit.  My biggest fear isn't animals in the sea, it's ships and barges and cables.

Always found the uniquely American practice of giving pedestrians the right of way at all times rather strange. It's obviously much easier for a pedestrian to avoid a speeding automobile than vice versa. Glad to see that the USCG hasn't adopted the same general rule.

WRT right of way; The rule of gross tonnage has always worked for me.  The vessel with the greatest gross tonnage has the right of way, because in the event of a collision it wins! On a sup, with very few exceptions, you ain't it.

Well depends where you are.

Imagine this rule being instituted in the surf zone!
