What brand?  Most carbon adjustables that I'm aware of (Kialoa, Naish) do recommend disassembly and full rinse after every exposure to saltwater.

My Werner carbon adjustable does let in small amounts of water, and I've been removing the handle and rinsing it after sessions. I looked in the shaft and there is a "floor" that apparently prevents water penetration past the telescoping adjustable segment. I've never been aware of the tiny quantity of water that intrudes: no sloshing or perceptible water weight so far.

You always want to rinse after use. None are completely water tight that have an adjustment mechanism that I know of. A small amount is normal.
