Short+wide SUP boards

Hi to everybody!
quite new in this forum and on the sport as well!

I want to ask for some ideas-informations about what I call "stuby" surf SUPs.
I see more nowdays that many companies produce models that have reduced lenght and increased width.
What I have in mind is that a ratio of 10'x30", or 9'x28, 5" is more or less common to most of puddlers. But now I see ratios for example, models 8'6", 9'1", 9'3" etc, that come in two options 28,5-29' and 32' width.
I know that something like that gives more stability during puddling, especially to heavier puddlers like myself (90kg) and many times this can conpensate for volume.

What I want to ask is how these boards perform comparing to the narrower ones?
More speciffically:
1. what types of waves those boards address to
2. Are they capable to make narrow, agile and more snap turns on the bottom turn and on the cutbacks?
3. Do they loose speed comparing to narrower ones?
4. Is it correct that a more narrow board is being driven by its rails more and a short and wide board is being driven by the pressure on the fins?

I would like your opinion, since I am in a period I want to change surf SUP board and go to something more "lively" -active.

Alex - the boards you mention are not that small - if you want real short and wide then there's plenty around but if you are new to SUPing then not the best choice.

Colas on here has plenty experience of short SUPs

Wide is definitely the way to go for everyday conditions for most riders the added stability helps you improve faster and have more fun
A well designed wide surf style board like the Famatic AllWave Coreban fusion and the JP Fusions all really rock getting you more fun on the water
Lots of technical reasons why but the feel in FUN

I have the same weight than you, 90kg~93kg, and my boards are:

Messy conditions: 9' x 30"
In glassy: 8'3" x 28"

I think i can go a little smaller than this but will probably be less fun.

I had a 7'4"x29.5" POD.  Overall, it's a great board, but was lacking top to bottom turning capability.  The wider nose doesn't really want to "snap" off the top of the lip.  For a shorter board, the wider nose is good for getting into waves, as my current 7'7"x27" board is quite narrow and requires a lot of paddle effort to catch what a shorter wider board would easily get into.




Also, that wide nose makes for a high "swing weight" when you are turning it.  It was once my go-to board, and then I tried something else, saw the benefits of a narrower shape, and moved on.  If you are in the process of downsizing, keeping your board width in the 29"+ range will retain stability.

8'5"x30"   7'4"x29.5"   8'5"x28"

The middle board will be about as stable as the blue one, and more stable than the yellow one.
