Which stomp pad do you like for SUP?
« on: March 07, 2013, 09:06:59 AM »
So the choices for a regular surfboard are endless.  However on most wider tail SUPs if you want a larger stomp pad you have to go with CP Stomp Pad, C4 Pro-Deck, unless you spread out your 3 piece pad.

So have you guys found another pad that you like for wider tails that have an arch and kick?

Or post pix of yours.

It's a PITA, but I've seen some folks put normal deck pad around the outside of regular three piece stomp pads - that way you don't have to spread it out and can use any stomp you want.

Hobie makes a wide stomp pad.

Edit: Oh, looks like CP is what Hobie calls their stomp pad, oops.

problem with not spreading it out on a wide tail is that the kick in the back only covers a small part of the tail and on a wide tail sometimes your back foot will get closer to the rail so only part of your side foot is butted up against it.

Make your own. They are all over priced.

Here I'm vacuum bagging it down. That was silly. I don't bag them anymore.

Make your own heel wedge and cut some scrap foam to make the arch bump. I've since ordered some heel wedges to my own specs from NSI in the Gorge. They retail at $4.00 per wedge. Wholesale at $2.00. Hydroturf used to sell heel wedge material. Not any more

Nice, like the custom stomp pad idea.  I think the wedge is similar material to minicell foam that is use in kayak fitting.

thanks guys.  I will check out the HT one.  Problem I have with the bigger ones is they seem to thick.  I'm to picky about pads, I like them as thin as possible.

DW, man that looks really good.  A perfect fit.  You are too crafty and make it seem to easy.  What's easy for you would take me 5 hours of my time to get it right.

I have OAM Surf pads on all my boards. Very happy with them.
Taller than most, shorter than others.

This is the Hydro Turf pad. I think they private label it for Hobie. Same price though.

I have it on one of my boards. It is super grippy, not thick, and repels water.

First of all, nobody hates shopping more than I do.  My wife knows I won't step foot in a mall or I get a massive headache right away.
Well yesterday I went shopping for a stomp pad and it was not pretty.
Made 4 stops because I was not happy with what I saw.  I love the Dakine thinline because they weigh practically nothing, super thin, and cool color combos.  Problem is on wide tails you have to space them out too much.  I looked at every single stomp pad on the market and for these SIMSUPs they are just too narrow.  Went to buy one and kept changing my mind.
I ended up with the Mattison one.  Made by boardworks.  Plain, boring, thick, and heavy.  Against what I was looking for except for the 2 things that sold me on it.
The actually part that kicks up separates into 3 pieces and it's much wider than the other ones.
DW, with all that time wasted shopping, i probably would have been better just making one  ;D

Stupid stomp pads!
