Pretty sure that this is the strongest leash:

7/16", no welds.

Crow Haley are tops.

I believe the same company makes the urethane cord for both Stay Covered and Crow Haley.  I think Beasho uses Crow Haley for his Mavericks endeavors.

Stay Covered are good as well.

If your cord has any string-small rope attachments to swivels, I'd check them periodically.  Some of the best leashes have these and my experience  has seen them wear thin.

What about in 7-8' sizes?  My 9' Gorilla keeps going strong, but it is way to long for my 7-7 and gets hung up in my paddle from time to time when things get turny.
Don't forget to bring a towel!

14 West brings up a good point.....
A word about length:

I use a 10' leash on my SUS... no problem...
but I used an 11' leash when the waves got double overhead... big problems.
The extra length created a dangerous situation in my book...
the leash would drag further behind, and in MANY cases, it would wrap around my arm, paddle or neck.
I got lucky a few time when it got my neck... I was able to quick shrug and duck... and it slipped off before the yank.
More than once, it pinned my hand to the paddle shaft and dragged me hard, by the wrist....
My 11' Da Kine is now, neatly coiled in my van... for emergency duty only.

I imagine in huge waves, the dynamics are much different, and a 15' leash is a different story.... maybe beasho will chime in.

Any similar experiences with a leash being too long? (not really a hijack... it speaks to the question) ;D

I use OAM's 7' Big Wave leash. Ay longer and I hate my life.
Taller than most, shorter than others.

Stay Covered will make whatever size you want. He had an 8' leash in stock when I got mine.

DaKine. I have had my DaKine leash for 4 years, surf 12ft+ waves with my sup, wiped out plenty of times and it hasn't failed me yet.

I break Da Kine leashes they are the worst ever for me. Creatures of Leisure have been good. Ocean earth one leash is really good.

I have tested the Stay Covered XXL Big wave leash in massive surf and never snapped one.  Gary Linden, who runs the Big Wave tour told me they are the only leash that he'll trust in big surf.

Pro Lites suck! Bought 2 of the SUP 10' calf leashes and both broke in less than a year on head high or smaller waves.
