Honolua Bay Maui
« on: December 01, 2012, 04:46:52 PM »
G’day Standup Zone I'm trying to come over to Maui in February for 10 days straight after the summer school holidays, I've always wanted to surf Honolua Bay ever since I seen the movie Free Ride when narrator Jan Michael Vincent says Mark Richards taking of on the wave of the day. I'll be staying around Kapalua town as its only 2 miles from Honolua Bay. I've found a company that hires mopeds for like $50 a day (it'll remind me of Bali some 32 years ago when you'd sit on your surfboard and ride the trail bike from Kuta to Uluwatu). would anybody Standup Zoners know of any cheap accommodation you'd recommend me in Kapalua, something like the Maui Seaside Hotel in Kahului. I’ll be back on Maui in July for a Maliko run.

Cheap in Kapalua?  That's an oxymoron.  No Maui Seaside comparables on that side.. that I know of.

We used to camp out by the Bay.  In fact that was how I spent new years day 1969.  That was cheap but it was also 1969 and I was 18

Be sure to leave the paddle in your room.
It takes a quiver to do that.

The Mauian in Napili.

On a side note, I surfed the bay on a huge swell. F me, that wave is so out of my league.  I'm not worthy.

We have a wave in Australia called Angourie no SUP's allowed. They say Honolua Bay is like Angourie on steroids.

Downwinder, nice pix of Angourie.  She's a beauty.  Drop in a few cliffs and it's pretty close.

You mentioned renting a scooter... you'll be much happier with a car.  Try googling Frank Saab's car rental business on Maui.

He rents out used sport wagons (e.g. Subaru) with surf racks for a really good price (and you'll fit in better in the parking lot).

This Honolua thread is killing me!!!!  :)

G'day Keiko I went for a scooter so I can just rock up to Honolua Bay with just one surfboard a pair of boardshorts and some wax the scooter would be easier to park as well. I can hire a car in Kahului for $25 a day if I rocked up to Honolua Bay in a car with four surfboard I recon the thieves would be rubbing there hands together ( I hate thieves all thieves should be bashed )

The Honolua Bay photo was taken about four Tuesdays ago 6th or 13th November. My good mate Blair Thorndike from Kahului emailed it to me. Blaire runs the Naish International Paddleboard race in July. Best race on the planet. Sooo looking forward to July 2013 for another Maliko Tour.
