Bill Foote 9'10" by 30.5"
« on: November 21, 2012, 10:22:19 AM »
Bill is carving out my first local shaped (non-asian) board.  Haven't been in a shaping room for many years and it was exciting to watch him begin what I think will be a good board for me.  20" nose, 17" tail and we'll shoot for 4" thick.  Going for S-glass, 6oz on bottom, with 2 time 6 on top with deck patches.  Pics as they come.  Bill's better half Barb answers emails informatively and prompt.  I'm stoked.

Looking forwad to seeing the final product and reading your impressions when you take it to the water for the first time...

I know the dimensions but not the volume... how do you calculate volume?  17' tail 20" nose by 4" thick

Hmmm... There must be a post (or poster) on here who could help. I've either gotten it from a shaper/shaping program (aku) or manufacturer.

This is going to be a fun and enlightening project...

I just came from my shaper (PlusOne) and we've been designing a similar board, 9'10" X 30 and a bit less than 4" thick. He shapes by computer and I asked him to have the board close to the volume of the 9'6' he made for me. The 9'10" will come in at about 135 lts, so you can extrapolate from there.

I'm really excited about my future board (guess every one is that orders a custom). This one we are going to be doing with hydroflex technology. The board will be made with ifoam, probably stringer-less and  have a bicycle valve  that allows you to pressurize it from 2 to 10 lbs/sqin to change the flex.

check out hydroflex here http://www.hydroflex-surfboards.com/media/press/hydroflex-supercharger-review/index.php

I'm guessing this may be the 2nd SUP with this process; my shaper is making one for himself.

It's really courageous and energizing to see someone spend their hard earned money on a new relatively untested tech.    Thanks Tom and thanks for the volume reference.

Can't wait to hear what happens with your board.

I really had a hard time deciding, but I've got a heap of faith in my shaper (PlusOne) and he has done the research and has faith in the product. But, we'll see.

Headmount, I suggest extra glass on the rails where the paddle can make contact. Used the same layup on a board I had built and have had lots of paddle "dings" to fix. Didn't know they were there until I removed the wax to put on a x-trac pad.
