Things snowboarders used to say about skiers
« on: November 11, 2012, 11:34:21 AM »
This is from 2008, some are still pretty funny.

1. “Go big or go home”
2. “No friends on a powder day”
3. “Never call last run”
4. It’s not your aptitude, but your attitude, that will determine your altitude!
5. Skiing combines outdoor fun with knocking down trees with your face.
6. Cross country skiing is great if you live in a small country.
7. I'm an under achiever and proud of it
8. If you jump out the window at the 42nd floor and you're still doing fine as you pass the 27th floor, that does not mean you don't have a serious problem.
9. Skiers are simply people who haven't yet gotten the hang of snowboarding.
10. Turning is the boring part between jumps.
11. If it is a good idea today, it will be a great idea tomorrow!
12. "Skiing is for little fat kids" - Shawn Farmer
13. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro
14. WWFSMD - What would flying spaghetti monster do?
15. Fear is a four letter word, an F-Word.
16. Bart: Can I go to the bathroom? Otto: Uh, uh -- say it in snowboard. Bart: Um, I've got to blast a dookie? Otto: Dook on!
17. I know a lot of people who used to ski, but I don't know anyone who used to snowboard.
18. With snowboarding, all you get is one board, which is shaped like a giant tongue depressor and manufactured by the Institute of Extremely Slippery Things.
19. Skiers hate snowboarders. It's a generational thing. Skiers are (and here I am generalizing) middle-aged Republicans wearing designer space suits; snowboarders are defiant young rebels wearing deliberately drab clothing that is baggy enough to cover the snowboarder plus a major appliance. - Dave Barry
20. Skiers like to glide down the slopes in a series of graceful arcs; snowboarders like to attack the mountain, slashing, spinning, tumbling, going backward, blasting through snowdrifts, leaping off cliffs, getting their noses pierced in midair, etc. - Dave Barry

21. When I Start teaching everything goes downhill.
22. I'm pretty sure there's more to life than being really really ridiculously good looking. And I plan on finding out just what that is. - Derek Zoolander
23. “Don't ride in front of me; I may not follow. Don't ride behind me; I may not lead. Just ride beside me and be my friend.”
24. Skiing - Going downhill turning feet and letting gravity do the work
25. face it, you're just sliding down the hill with sticks on your feet
26. Winter is not a season, it's an occupation
27. If you can't get people to listen to you any other way, tell them it's confidential.
28. many people attatch snowboards to their feet; few attatch them to their souls
29. The number of people watching you try a trick is always inversely proportional to the stupidity of the trick you are trying.
30. Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. - George Carlin
31. "Ride hard, ride fast, or get the f*ck off the mountain."
32. "If you ain't fallin you ain't tryin"

33. when hell freezes over i'll snowboard there too
34. "A day without snowboarding is like a day on skis"
35.
"I know a lot of people that used to ski, but I don't know anyone who used to snowboard."
36. The snowboard is ur friend. It has never lied to you, never broken a promise and is always there when you need it- and if it isn't, it's not it's fault.!"
37. converting to skiing is just like masturbation, all ur doing is ****ing yourself.
Aloha,

And of course what skiers say about snowboarders: The difference between a snowboard instructor and a snowboard beginner? Three days.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

I guess I was a little more old school on my "Snurfer"

We used to say "Please God... I want to ride on a Ski lift... just once!"

This is the last picture of my Snurfer... I was Snurfing White Crest Beach sand dune during a raging Nor'easter... I fell at the bottom... the board shot into the face of a 6' shorebreak...never to be seen again. :'(

Used to say all sorts of things.  First it was "please let us buy a lift ticket and use your lifts"
Then it was "no it's not hard"
Then "Yes it's fun"

Now - I don't say much - I just ride.

"If it was easy, they'd call it snowboarding."  -- From a K2 telemark ad campaign...

I ride with tele skiers all the time... they still take great pleasure in using that line.

Found this picture... not as old as the snurfer or Easy Riders Burton Backhill... Can you name this pro-model K2?

Pic one is a bunch of skiers, oblivious to the cool frozen wave they're missing.  A surfer pal of mine making something out of nothing and another pal of mine, originally from Cleveland going into warp speed to begin a very high G turn.  And I figure high Gs are what surfing is whether it's on the snow or in the water.  Now I have to say, I have seen some skiers rip but in general snowboarders are hard wire for it.

I never felt any skier vibe. But I'd poke fun at my skier friends.

I love how at Mt. Hood, nobody gives a hoot what you're riding anymore.

Sure wish it was like that with kiters and windsurfers, and SUP'ers and surfers.

They've had more time to grow up. Maybe that's all it takes.

Greatdane - Dan Donelly.
I knew you'd get it Warren.  I ran into Dan Donelly last year... he works for a city Parks & Rec department in our neighboring town.  He was stoked that I still actually have this board.  One of the only ones I kept for some reason...

A billion years ago I stood on the podium with him and Craig Kelly at a half-pipe contest in eastern Washington. I was 3rd...  There were probably only 3 people entered  :D

This makes me think--people use the ski/snowboard comparison to prone/standup all the time, with the idea that standup is like snowboarding because it came later.  But skiers are the older ones holding things in their hands.

It makes me wonder what snowboarders would say about skiers if snowboarding had come first?---assuming skiing would have even been invented (versus maybe adding a stick to snowboarding).
