'Canoe Drummond" was a pioneer of stand up paddling:

Something tells me no one ever dropped in on Canoe Drummond.

Bahahaha! I was thinking the same thing, as well as doing a double take to make sure that wasn't a Geico add featuring a new, beefed up caveman...

I have a new hero. I officially aspire to look like Canoe Drummond. That is one manly ass dude. I grew hair on my chest just looking at that pic.

Thanks Robert!

(edit) just saw Bulky's quote. No lie man, he could melt EPS with his stare.

Actually I stand corrected. Further research shows that the canoe actually belonged to the last members of an offshoot tribe of the Chumash.  Historians view them as the last people who ever dropped in on Canoe Drummond.  They were not heard from again.

When Chuck Norris has nightmares, he asks his mom to check the closet for Canoe Drummond.

Laird Hamiltons favorite saying is, "Blame Canoe"...

I'm in complete favor of starting a thread dedicated to Canoe Drummondisms...  ;)

Guys, just found a pic of his grandson, Surf Race Drummond. The old apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.

Sorry, his paddle sponsor would be bummed if we used the wrong shot.

Oh no, wasn't there a thread awhile back on Starboard doctoring images in their catalogue?  Can't believe they've done it again, cowboy!

I'm going to revive this thread because I missed it the first time around and it has history right here in my home town of Capistrano Beach. I was looking at the picture of Ron Drummond surfing the Canoe and thought "I've surfed that reef ", but the shoreline has changed a bit. Sure enough, it's the Killer Capo reef.

The name Drummond is also affiliated with an old house in Capistrano Beach that has been long removed, but I remember as a child. It was unique because it had a 4 wall handball court in the middle of the house. The court was open to the sky. I know Micky Munoz would have the history on the house because it was right down the street from his house. I'll have to ask him about it next time I see him. I wonder if it's the same Drummond?

That's a great story, thanks for sharing.  Do you know if there are still waves breaking on "Drummond's reef" on big days?  Might be a good outside spot for Paddle surfing on a big swell?

Yes. Still breaks when it gets big. Last time I surfed it was probably three years ago. It was a good 10'+. It's one big drop and then disappears. I think that's the problem with a relatively small reef. Once the wave hits deep water again it's gone. Probably prefect for a canoe. The Dana Outriggers hit it all the time. Unfortunately, so do the jetskis. I've been reading through local historical books trying to find other Drummond connections.
