Naish Nitrix for SUP
« on: May 19, 2012, 01:03:39 AM »
I just read a test in the german surf magazine where they did test 135 liter Freerideboards and the Naish Nitrix was rated a big, really good turning, late planing freemoveboard because it has a small tail and huge rocker.
Now my mind can't stop thinking if one of bigger Nitrix boards, 260 x 74cm or 264 x 78cm wide, wouldnt be good flat water / small wave SUP too, doubling as a perfect crossover board.
I'm wondering how far away the nitrix rocker line is from a flat rockerd SUP line.
For sure such a short board wouldn't have the best glide, but that would't matter to me.

Another idea i have is how an old windsurf rockerline of the '80ies from a 295 "radical funboard" would work with a SUP outline, maybe build by an custom shaper of these old days, who's still in duty (in Germany we still have them, G. Lorch (LORCH boards) i'm thinking of, or K. Jocham (Hifly) or D. Jocham (Horney, Angulo Slalom)

That looks like a nice board to SUP with. I'll have to keep an eye out for one.

Should be able to use the bigger ones without any problem in flat water.

I was using a Starboard Futura 135L as a flat water SUP when going out with family.   I also used a Exocet Compact Move 115L- 69cm.  Very tough to balance in the waves but I was able to catch a ride and it surfed pretty nice.  Gotta move the front foot straps because they really get in the way.

I did try an old Bic 101L 59cm wide in a pool.  It was possible to SUP but crazy tough to balance. The flatter rocker line would be a challenge.

At 175lbs, to comfortably SUP a windsurf board, I found. 135L and 28-29" wide to be the minimum for me
