High Tide Nuggets
« on: April 30, 2012, 02:33:52 PM »
Pulled up to a regular spot of mine, usually not crowded but still has about 5-8 guys out.

Today, not 1 was out. Made sense why, high tide, a bit of bump and chop.

Watched 'em roll in a while, weren't really breaking, kinda walled...about shoulder high.

I thought to myself, "Well, I drove down here... those aren't really breaking...but I have a 4.5" thick board...if anyone could catch them, it's me. OK. I'm going."

Paddled out, hair dry and waited about 2 minutes.

Then... "Is that....crap...GO!" On the horizon was about 3 lumps that looked solid.

First one approached, about an 8' face and I was leery due to the walls...let it go.

Almost didn't make it over the second.

Burning rubber to get over the 3rd.

"Gee wiz! Didn't look this big from the truck!"

Settled down and mentally adjusted for the new conditions.

5 minutes later, another set.

Another 8' face...went for it...dropped it, made the bottom turn... flying down the line, no time for a bottom turn have to run down the line, so a mid-face turn and pump for speed...I'm flying! "Crap, this thing is going to close out", bottom turn and pop out the back...launched a good 2' out and managed to land and not fall! Hair still dry...hahahah.

"WAY better than it looked and I'm STILL the only guy out!"

I was alone for about 30 min until a shortboarder paddled out.

Worth the drive. Worth the paddle out.

Sometimes you score even when you think it sucks!  :D

What's your back issue? You mentioned that today also?

I think I had a sighting of Jordan this AM. Bet that was rad to have the whole fam in action again.

I'm going to try to get out tomorrow, thursday, friday and saturday...  :D Let's hook up!

I got a few rippers. It was acting so odd, like it was high tide even though it was low tide!

Got out after 45 min because I got a sweet left that I wasn't going to top.
