« on: April 27, 2012, 04:01:45 PM »
Just Got a new GoPro and want to figure out editing and posting of video on my Mac. Is I movies good enough ? Or do I need a software program other than Imovie?  I only found a thread for editing with a PC :((

I use iMovie 11 which new in this version,  allows you to Share to Vimeo.  It's really easy to use and you can also pull stills off your video with Quicktime.  Make sure you save the stills to a folder and remember that if you're shooting 30 fps, that's 30 pics for each second so be careful how much you carve out or you'll end up with a tone of stills.

But it's really cool since you'll get stills off the video you'd never snag shooting stills unless you had some expensive moto-drive.  They're low res but fine for internet or the Zone

iMovie is equivalent to a high end system of a few years ago and it has a pretty easy workflow.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Thanks Guys. Now I'll have to learn how to use Imovie. It never ends, keeps the brain alive though.

I used the GoPro for the first time on Sat. I used WVGA 720p  60  and it was like watching National geographic HD quality  footage. Dam that little camera can take some nice video. Now I just gotta learn how to use all the settings.

Thanks Bill for the advise on the still pics and the Vimeo.  My wifes Mac Pro does have this option on it to upload directly to Vimeo ... cool.

SEA,
My last few vids were usind the Hero 2, better quality video and in 1080, you can change FOV so there is less fisheye effect! In Hawaii fogging is a big problem, use the anti-fog strips and blast your car AC in the case for 2 minutes, works for me in humid Hilo! I use Vimeo, join "plus" membership for faster uploads. If you use the suction mount, tie it down to a leash plug for security! Clip your headmount to your rashguard!

The Color on the GoPro is insane !!  On our Mac book pro it is crazy how nice the video is.  Of course when you upload to youtube quality is less. However I uploaded a clip of  the H.kai run. I was paddling with my wife and she is still learning so I was cruising trying not to get to far off, but you can see the color of the water when the sun comes out !!  I was using the suction cup mount with it fully extended , it is about 10 to 12 inches off the board. I tied it to the leash plug. and it was all good. I will be learning and experimenting with this a lot now.

I have a vimeo account just need to use it.

Liked it better that you got the whole rider in the frame and not just from the knees down, like I do with my shorter mount and narrower focal length.  One of the benefits of a GoPro.  Steady footage so the mount works great for you.  Fun huh?

You got one of those crooked paddles.  Like it?

Yah Bill the Mount seems to work well with the go pro. I might try up front looking back like you do. Also I angled it slightly to the left and was able to stay just right of and behind my wife and catch her riding bumps. So there are some good possibilities.

That werner bent paddle is good and very easy on my shoulder. However it is a little heavy and it catches on the water during exit if you don't camber it just right. I am going to buy a KeNalu soon, most likely a Maliko.  What kind of shaft do you use Bill when you do down wind runs ?? How are you liking the KeNalu?

Nice, Scotty!  I'm hoping to do more with the GoPro too; just gotta find the time.  I should have a better schedule in about three weeks.  Keep learning so you can teach me!   ;D ;D ;D

Sea..  I like the bigger Molokai but have been going big for several years and am used to it.  I tried the Maliko and it's great also but my cadence is higher.  Just something to get used to and I'm a creature of habit.  Try the big one and see how your shoulders feel.

Bill

What flex shaft are you using with that molokai ?? is the length of your molokai about the same or longer than you normally paddle ?
