So I may still be months away from buying that first race board, but with the summer coming up I can't help but think about it.  I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations of boards to try while I make my decision.
I am barely 170 lbs
I need a 12'6" or else it may stick out the end of my garage
In all the boards I have tried I have liked the narrower ones a lot better.
I will be on lakes about 80% of the time.
I would love one that was built with more sustainable materials/processes, but that is not a dealbreaker
Under $2000 would be great, but I realize the difficulty in that

Thanks in advance for the input

I'm a big proponent of the Starboard ACE - at your weight on flat water the 25" wide would be plenty stable.  Under $2000 means you would have to get the AST version which is heavier than the carbon but still fast.

A lot of the 12'6 designs are wider than comparable 14' race boards.  This is to make the stability of the 12'6 manageable for the majority of folks.  But since you will be mostly on flatwater and your balance is decent or better, I'd say try to keep the width of the board to less than 27" wide.

BIll Foote makes some dagger-thin raceboards for aliens like Jeremy Riggs. He'd do whatever you want.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Has Fanatic added a 12'6" to that format?

Bean,

Fanatic has a 12'6 X 27.5 Flatwater race. Just delivered one last week.
Only comes in Carbon construction...you up for it?

BTW the SoCo Freebird is a cool shape but as far I know talking to John they are not available...with no time frame...but that could change

Stop by and say hi the shop is open for the season

Aloha

Jim, I'm sticking with my 14'; I'm not getting any lighter (or younger apparently).  Are you rescheduling the beach cleanup?
