New Board & Murphy's Law --- Pictures to see here
« on: April 19, 2012, 09:34:00 PM »
Got a new board... so it's been pretty flat

So for  over a week I paddled about in tiny waves and on the bays... waiting patiently....NOT  :-\

Today I awoke early to a thumping swell... super glassy, head high.

Enter Mr. Murphy :'(

My super wonderful daughter had a tour of her chosen University TODAY at 11 am ... 2 hrs away on a normal day but bridge work detours forced a much earlier departure.

Had a GREAT tour and lots of fun with my daughter... a really nice school and close by :)

Got in the water by 3pm... winds had picked up to 20mph + offshore (if you know where to go) 8)

The swell had dropped and weakened but HEY... I was getting lots of waves on my new... did I say it was NEW? board... I'm ok now

One of the LBers I surfed with is guess what??? A professor at my daughters new University!!! How cool is THAT?

Anyway... I'll post a few Pics to keep the Right Coast in play here

First ones are the waves I had to drive away from :'(
They were board breaking stuff... I know, cuz at least 1 snapped today :-\

I have broken off 4 side bites and ripped out a fin box with my body since March 1st ::)

The last ones are afternoon delights... no surfer left at 7pm when I got out so... empty waves
I may throw in a little scenery if I find a good shot... Cape Cod's beauty ALWAYS amazes me... we are so lucky to live here

HEY... I just looked at the clock... it's my BIRTHDAY ! .... oh crap... now I'm 64.... brings a certain Beatles song to mind.... ;)

if so let me know... I'll give you props ;D
You were taking some chances in that shorebreak... and pulling it off!

Great shots. The Cape is gorgeous -- I had some really fun all-day noodle arm sessions in the early 80s when going to school in Boston and later living on the North Shore. Always lingered at the Cape, hating to leave. You're lucky.

Nice pics.

The Cape is a special place.

I'll second the notion that you are lucky to live there.

fyi..when headed to the "other side" via the Sag get off exit at exit 6,5,4, or 3 and take the beautiful route 6A. go thru Sandwich into Sag and cut up thru the Christmas Tree Shop.  U can get right to the bridge there…

free, thanks for the heads up on the shortcut... took me 4 hours to go from brewster to RI the other night and I took 6A the whole way, thinking i would bypass that traffic... wrong.

Bridge By Pass #2

exit 5 to 149----> rt 28
Mashpee rotary take 151 to meet 28 north again ... then straight over to Bourne Bridge

It's only 8 miles longer and it takes the whole Sagamore Bridge nightmare out of play.
Especially good on R.I. trips ;D

Hey Free2B
Sandwich must be a nightmare with this mess going on ???
Everyone wants to cut thru Sandwich...
Is that why they closed exit #2 ?

not to hijack this thread but when is the bridge work supposed to be wrapped up?  before memorial day I'm assuming?  I can't imagine the mess it would create after that

Hey Rick... Happy Birthday! Was your new board your birthday present?

I'm heading off cape next week to pick up my new board in Hingham. I may have to do the 6A cut thru the Christmas Tree parking lot. I thought the Sagamore bridge horror show was over with when they got rid of the rotory. What a complete failure and waste of tax payers money.

Happy birthday.

I did that very trip a few years ago.  On the way home from her recruiting trip from Montecito, I said, "You can pick anywhere you want to go sweetie, but I'll actually help pay if you go to Westmont."  ;)

A father's love (of sup) knows no limits.

yep, Sandwich has picked up the pace here recently.  i live on 6A, not bad out front only noticeable downtown with bottlenecking.

bridge work should be done by end of May.

exit 2 closed periodically for construction…lots of bad accidents there…hopefully restructuring ramps.

Thanks for the birthday greeting :D
My new board has been in the pipe for a long time... just happened to come together at this time.

I bet you are stoked... just pick the right time to negotiate the bridge.

Try this... the cams will help a little... don't know about the reliability of the traffic report.

For R.I..... use the 149-->28 to 151 to 28 and Bourne bridge... 20 miniutes longer, but eliminates the chance of a 2 hr delay.

Slowjim
Thanks!
I am fortunate that she picked an affordable and excellent State University. Now both my daughters are in Schools that are within 1.5 hrs away ;D
My youngest daughter drove to Boston yesterday and brought her sister home from college to surprise me on my birthday... how cool is that?
