Coreban 12'6" Alpha Race vs Naish 12'6" Glide
« on: April 07, 2012, 03:21:15 PM »
Hey everyone.  I have been searching for a new board and have narrowed my choices to these two boards.  Unfortunately where I live there are NO board shops so demos are unavailable.  I will be paddling on lakes that are often windy and choppy but have their flat days as well.  I want a board that I can use for exercise, occasional trips to the ocean as well as some recreational racing down the road.  I am leaning towards the Coreban thinking t is more of an "all arounder".  I am 6'3" and 195ish.  Thoughts are appreciated.

Las Vegas.  SUP is a new and hopefully growing sport out here.

I'm your height and weight and I've paddled both of these boards.. heaps.. (and I now own the Naish) .. They are very, very different boards.. IMO the Naish is a much better choice for what you want.. unless you're wanting to surf it alot.. and then the Coreban might be the better choice.. You can still surf the Naish but it would be BOP style surfing.. not surfing type surfing..  ;D

Here's a vid that I did last week and I'm on my Naish 12'6" Glide.. You can see a few others in the vid on the Coreban 12'6" Alpha Race.

I agree with DJ. My brother had a Alpha and I tried it a lot. I was not feeling it. I prefer my older 12 Glide, it had more volume. I weigh about 190. As a pocket downwinder or crossover surf board it would be great. Disclaimer alert, I urged my brother to buy the Coreban. He replaced it with a Bark for racing.

Thanks for the advice guys.  It's really hard making the decision when you can't go out and try them for yourself.  People keep telling me I can't go wrong with either board but that doesn't help much.  I knew I'd get a definitive answer here.

IMO.. the Glide is more suited to bigger guys.. (like us) .. and the Coreban is more suited to lighter people.. and the Coreban has a much smaller sweet spot for standing making the board a little more technical to paddle.. Also the Glide is more stable out of the two.. Both are great boards.. My 12'6" Glide is my most used board these days.. It is a great alrounder.

Sounds like the Glide is the board for me.  I appreciate all the advice.
