Robby knows what the paddle is for.

I never get guys in full hoods and booties at steamers and mavericks and when the maui crew hits gold beach in June bare feet.  The funny thing is if you look at the port Orford buoy I think the water is warmer in the winter.

I think Charlie said he was on 2012 9' Hokua.

Just wounder what temp you guys go with on the booties.  When I am in bend in the winter i put wool socks and plastic bags under the booties.  Dang that ice.

Ted,

I'm laughing out loud about the, "water is warmer in the winter," comment, because it reminded me of a funny story.

When I was attending Willamette University, a buddy of mine from Pacifica (no stranger to cold water), went surfing at Seaside in the winter on this theory.  5mm suits with hoods and I'm from Hawaii!  We surfed for about an hour but when we saw snow flakes hitting the water I just got out and so did Don.

The funny part was that our hands were so numb that we could not take our wetsuits off (back zips back then) nor could we even grasp a key to open the truck to warm up.  We tried opening the door by pinning the keys between or palms to no avail.  Thank God Don's girlfriend finally showed up and laughed at us while she just unlocked the truck, let us in and turned the heater on.  I had visions of dying in the Seaside parking lot for lack of being able to open a car door.  Talk about Darwinism.

Up in your neck of the woods it's not about the ocean temp, it's about the air temp and wind!

Does your Inn have a hot tub within walking distance of the beach?

Willamette Class of 1980.  That's not you charlie is it?  We have a indoor pool and spa.  In the winter we keep the pool  North County warm.  72.  In the summer we keep it at 80.  Spa is about 101.  We have 6 rooms with spa tubs on the deck. You fill them so you can figure out what temp is good.  I use booties because of bad boots at Big Bear and Mammoth in high school.

Hey Ted,

I'm class of 1989.  I think Gold Beach is absolutely great, but it's really more California than Oregon since you can't get there from Oregon very easily but it's super easy to get to from California.  Plus, the Smith River is absolutely beautiful and maybe one of the most pristine rivers left in the lower 48.   I used to end there with Rogue River Raft Trips from Grants Pass to Gold Beach.  Fun Times, even though you had to throw rocks at the black bears to keep them away from your camp on the overnighters.  I'm still not sure that is a wise thing but that's what my uncle told me to do (he was the guide) and it seemed to work.

I'd love to make it up there this summer.

...so how about summer...is Oregon surfable with no wetsuit?

Also, by the spot where the

is..is it kitable?

Either way, looks great. Are there waves in the summer?

The water is a little colder in the summer I think a wetsuit in the summer is a must.  Robby looks like he is in a thin one.  Zane say's its cold.  Kitable in the summer when the north winds blow.  The windsurfers from maui say it's windy.  Waves all year around never totally flat.  It's not like socal with the channel islands so anything in the North Pacific finds it way to the break.

Thanks come on over
