Looking for specific Hitch (RV) SUP Rack? Please Help?
« on: March 26, 2012, 07:23:53 PM »
I've seen it before but can't seem to find it anywhere.  I'm looking for a SUP rack that would connect into the hitch receiver.  A vertical rack for RV's.  Anyone know where I can find one or if you know someone that custom makes them?
Thanks!

Check with Paddle Surf Warehouse.  I know they had something for trailer hitches & SUPs.

There's a bunch of ways to skin that cat...not really a one size fits all solution if you want to do it right...
I designed and built this custom iteration with the help of a buddy who is a master welder...

Sorry...it's a bit dated...a million or so views ago...but, maybe it will give you an idea of your own...

Thanks guys.
Wardog, that's a sweet set up!  After doing some research it seems that there was a company, NaluSurf, that used to make them but stopped making them.  I like something semi-basic so that I can easily remove it when needed.  The NaluSurf Rack appears to be what I'm looking for, but still can't seem to find anyone selling something similar.  If anyone else has any contacts, Please chime in.

You should give Frank Niemeyer a call to get a quote on a custom.  He'll build racks to specs. https://surfworksusa.com/

Thanks H2O.  I did send him an email about a week ago.  I just left him a Voice Mail as well, so I will patiently wait.

most unbraced hitch receiver stuff is sketchy. A lot of torque on a relatively small diameter. Before you trust your stuff to it give it a good pull test and look over the welds. Easy to make, hard to make good.
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

No doubt go with Frank if you want a solid rack for the road - he is the best.  My friend just sold one of Frank's racks and it was a dual receiver that could be braced at the top.

The pics below are of one I designed for short hops to our local beaches.  I used a cargo tray and had a tree welded up so I could still use the base stand-alone.  I made a removable cradle for the tails out of 2 x 6's that's attached by screws through the bottom of the cargo tray.  It works good and I still have room for coolers & firewood next to the boards.  For longer trips the boards go on the roof or rolled up on the tray (ULIs).

Here's something similar for sale on CL but not sure if it would hold SUPs:

capobeachboy,

I really like your set up.  You should just sell me yours  ;D.  I actually did text that guy in the CL ad and he already sold it.
Hopefully Frank gets back to me so we can figure something out.
In the meanwhile I will just keep looking at pictures of what I don't have and want.  Nothing wrong with looking at pictures of nice racks.

Okay Zoners....please brainstorm with me.  Wardog and capobeachboy, feel free to chime in as well as I could use your thoughts.

I'm going to fabricate something for my sprinter van.  I like the set up that capobeachboy has but wondering on a few things.

1.  What do you see that could be improved?
2.  Would you make the top cross bars that the sups go into a little higher up?
3.  How long would you make those bars? 20-22"??
4.  How could you lock up the boards?  I wonder if there's a way to use like a gatekeeper type of lock to secure them.
5.  How would you modify that rack to carry a bike or maybe 2.

What suggestions could you give me in fabricating this up?

Thanks!
