Recommendations for accessories for my SUP
« on: April 03, 2012, 06:09:19 PM »
Now that I bought my board,  I can see I am going to need some other stuff.  Recommendations for waterproof Ipod holder, something to hold liquid on the SUP.  Anything else?

Not sure where you paddle, or if it is patrolled by any John Q Law types, but a whistle and flotation device to keep you from being fined.  Otherwise, you could get a belt that will hold your water bottle, or one of those camelback set ups.  I just have a cargo net on the nose of my board.  I shove my soft lunch box in there full of snacks for day's paddle a couple of water bottles.  How you hydrate depends on what type of paddling you're doing.  I have only done backwater paddles, where I can find a save spot out of boat traffic's way and just sit on my board, have a snack and hydrate.  If you're off shore on a downwinder, then you're going to need an easier way to get to your water!

I have a box in the back of my car that has; some short & long sleeve rash guards, a vest, a spring suit, reef style booties (for rooky beaches), Sun block, hats and visors, a hip pack style pfd (haven't worn mine in a while, but some harbor patrols in force them), I use a hip strapped hydration bottle, a waterproof phone bag from West Marine (though I rarely carry my phone), various leashes, hydrogen peroxide (for cuts in dirty water), an empty 1 gal milk jug (to rinse my board off), a clean towel, a wipe down towel, and waterproof mp3 player. I'm sure there is more crap, but you get the picture. Have fun out there....
It's not overhead to me!
8'8" L-41 ST and a whole pile of boards I rarely use.

An idea I got from Strand Leper--Carry your water bottle in the waste band of your boardshorts.  I've been doing this recently.  It is simple and accessible.

For a waterproof case I use an Aquapac case for my Iphone and use the GPS to track my paddles. I like it cause I can wear it around my neck or stick it in my suit pocket. I've gone swimming with it on a lot and never had a leak issue. I like that its clear and soft too so I can eaily use the device while its in the Aquapac. I dont know if this would work for your ipod cause I dont know how you would get the headphones through it without compromising the seal, not to mention that if you fall in your headphones are done for. Anyway, I am happy with that brand so I thought I'd mention it.

No one has mentioned a leash.  Also you need at least one paddle. I have at least 6.  Yes I have 7 boards also.  For cold water I use a wetsuit and in warm water a nice swimsuit. I also have various wetsuits in different thicknesses and various rash guards to cover a wide variety of conditions.  Don't forget your booties and hood. And finally I need a van to store my equipment.

Accessories can cost more than the board.
