Anyone try a Pedometer for SUP distanc?
« on: March 12, 2012, 05:24:08 AM »

I am looking at getting an Altimeter/Barometer/Compass watch, one model comes with a tides and a pedometer too.  I was wondering how accurate a pedometer might be on a sup.  The pedometer needs to be calibrated to your travel speed.  I realize a gps is better, but curious if anyone has tried it.

Unlike walking, where distance is fairly relative to stride, for paddling the distance per stroke is subject to tides/currents and wind.  On the other hand if it will give you number of strokes, you can calculate the average distance traveled per stroke, strokes per minute, etc.

Will one of those cheap pedometers that they have given away with happy meals count strokes?

Pedometers with Happy Meals? Do they record one step forwards and three steps back?
Foote 10'4X34", SIC 17.5 V1 hollow and an EPS one in Hood River. Foote 9'0" x 31", L41 8'8", 18' Speedboard, etc. etc.

Georgebob, I guess the pedometers count strokes and the happy meals contribute to future strokes.  ;D

Geez, that wasn't nearly as funny as I originally thought...

It would help me figure out how far I have to paddle to burn off a Big Mac and fries!

Of course a pedometer would only work under ideal conditions (flat, no wind, no tide), I wonder if it would have any accuracy in those conditions.  I would like to figure out  how consistent is the distance traveled per stroke.
