Next Board...?
« on: February 29, 2012, 05:18:05 AM »
Got the 12'6 JM for racing, DWers & the Coreban Icon 10ft as my all-round board now I just need a great performance board to round out my quiver...

At the moment I weigh 100kg & I don't mind if it's a little challenging at first I'm hoping to loose some weight with all the Supping over the next 6 months... & I have the Icon for messy conditions. I'm no shredder at the moment but I can surf ok and really want a board that I can progress with upping my game in waves up to 6ft...

So far I'm considering the following:

- Jimmy Lewis Kwad 9'1
- Naish Hokua 9'5
- PSH Hull Ripper 9'6
- Fanatic ProWave 9'2
- Surftech Laguna Bay 9'1

All pretty sweet boards could be a tough decision so any feedback on these or other suggestions would be great.

Cheers.

I'm the same weight as you and if I were to get another production board the Starboard 9' 5" wide point would be at the top of a very short list. Have the 2011 8'10" WP which surfs nice and is super maneuverable on a wave but is a slow paddler getting into... for me.

I like 32" wide for stability in all conditions, certainly for a shorter board.

There's a regular at my local break with the 9'5" who absolutely rips on his... can catch anything he goes for on it. Might be worth a test drive if you can find one.

Also the the starboard 9'1 pro is said to be a ripper. Would be a little more difficult then the wide point but iv heard its a sick board. Starboard makes great sups I would consider them for sure.

Cant really say much about most of the boards except the hokua. The id super fun board. At 90 kg it is mybig board. I am losing weight so moving mostly to 9'0 butyhe9'5 is fun and very agile. Definitely can see just about anyone have fun on it.

IMO Go the 9'5" Hokua, if you have a 10' for backup
I demoed back to back 9'5" Hokua and 9'5" WP I wanted a one board quiver so i went the WP with more stability, but the Hokua was faster and more responsive, less foot movements to go from rail to rail, but a bit more challenging to stand on. :)
